I can’t speak for Canada, but as a LEO is the states, law allows certain percentages of tint. This varies from state to state and probably Providence to Providence.

No states allow front tint. We do 70% because it's practically clear but still blocks UV and gives some heat rejection.

I tint my full windshield every car. Blocks the heat, kills the glare at night. I also don’t break the law so I don t get harassed

It looks like we can legally tint our windshields in Ohio. Same as what you're doing, it's 70%. I'm giving serious consideration to doing that just for the heat rejection.

Here are the latest Ohio tint laws for Sedans, SUVs, and Vans:
  • Front windshield: Allow 70% of the light to pass through
  • Front-seat side windows: Allow 50% of the light to pass through, plus or minus 3 percent
  • Back-seat side windows: Any amount of darkness is fine
  • Rear window: Any amount of darkness is fine

There's a woman in our condo complex who drives an SUV, and when she goes by I can't tell who's in the driver's chair. It's got to be a 5% tint. She told me there are times she has to lower the window to properly see out the side of the vehicle.

I asked her where she got the tint; the answer: it came on the (used) SUV when she bought it at the dealer.

If you watch any one of the reality police TV shows, you would know that many of their traffic stops start out as window tint violations. Why give them probable cause to pull you over?????

The factory tint on front windows is kosher in Ontario. The issue with window tint is a safety issue for LEO not being able to see into the front seat area. I've never seen a factory tint on the front windows that would interfere with my ability to the drivers compartment.

All BMWs also have an Ipad in the middle of the dash... I thought that was illegal too but...
