^ i agree. the kicker is appreciating the things that just come by and not be a prick about it.

that's cool - I don't have anything against kids who drive nice cars my age and that didn't pay for them. As long as they appreciate it and are grateful, they're ok in my book. Shoot, if my parents wanted to buy me an E90 at 20, not like I would say no either! "That's ok - I want to strive, work hard, and make it on my own." - uh, no. I didn't have a choice in my case - I had to buy it on my own.

What bothers me are those rich kids driving 6-series and M3's who have this sense of entitlement. An E90 at your age - you are lucky but not what I would consider overly-spoiled - that's a good thing.

If you can afford to buy your kid a $15,000-$20,000 car then you definitely have a decent amount of money.

Now that I live down here in Florida, it's a completely different story. Kids here have Porsches, BMWs, Maseratis, etc. If you have a brand new civic, it's "just a civic".

I'ld like to see a poll on this site:
What percentage of your car did YOU pay for?
0%, 25%, 75%, 100%?
Just curious.

So far, only 50% paid the entire cost themselves. I suppose we could have been more specific in the question. (Quite a lesson in political polling techniques here - how to make the poll come out the way you want!)

WTF, where have I been living! Sneaking the keys of my dad's beat up jalopy for a quick joyride up and down a deadend while he was sleeping was the closest I came to being behind the wheel. Until I was 24 and got my first car - a red Toyota Corolla station wagon.

Dont bother with the 7, you will be envious of your friends with sportier cars. Stick with either a sporty car or SUV.

Your bro got an H2, so you ask for an H1. You will be more satisfied....

I also believe that it is bad to spoil your kids, but if you have the money to buy your child something that is safer than another car is....even if it costs $25k more than the least safe car, then you should do it. I can justify buying a base 325, instead of say the fully loaded 330i. Trust me, it sucks when you see a 16 year old driving your dream car, but that just gives me more motivation to work harder to get what I want. My first car at 16 was a 1992 Ford tempo (which I still have today as a beater)...and had that until my senior year of college when I bought a 2003 vw jetta gli...then started working and got promoted and finally got the 330i. I believe that going from crap to something nice makes your appriciate and respect what you have instead of taking it for granted.
