Aside from the newer brace/cross member is there any other parts that were replaced? Also, can the cross member be purchased by itself?

Can you comment on how much net weight was removed?
Edit: Never mind see it now, 50lbs

Awesome mod and looks like the work done was top tier. Kudos

Good thing he has a BBK on there too

I've wasted money before (at VAC actually!!) but this is just complete overkill...

Bet you this didn't even take one tenth of a second off a track time. Who the hell tracks a 330 anyways...

i dont think it matters what you track, just ask all those guys who own Lambo/Ferrari when they bring their miatas to the track to beat on instead. He's doing track oriented mods and actually taking it to the track. I think its pretty cool!

So, when he asked me about cutting out his stock roof (moonroof equipped of course) I knew he was serious.

Enter Arkym. Full carbon replacement roof for $1399 - nice. Since BMW never produced a carbon roof for an E90 this Arkym piece was a no brainer. All Arkym vacuum infused carbon fiber products are designed and produced in the USA. Huge weight savings, perfect fit.

Total weight savings ~ 50lbs.

Per client request, we put the stock headliner back in, just locked the moonroof door and tightened up everything to ensure there were no squeaks/rattles etc.

1 day after picking up the car, Rob took the car to Lime Rock for a track event. The car was rock solid (as expected) and he was thrilled with the results. I trust he will post in here soon

I will have some good 'final' pics in the next few weeks.

If you have any questions about this process or any Arkym products please call/email/PM/IM at any time. We are ready to do another

Are you saying that only certain cars should be tracked and others, like the 330i, shouldn't?

Are you saying HPDE is all about the vehicle rather than the driver?

If so, I disagree.

The vehicle is irrelevant. A proficient driver is proficient because he/she has the skill to pilot a vehicle at high speed in a safe manner. HPDE is about the driver, not the car.

I hit up the guys at IND and they still make em!
And it'll be 2x2 at that!
Before I was 75% sure I wanted it for the weight reduction and the obvious aesthetically pleasure.
But the other 25% was saying my OCD was gonna hate having a 2x2 boot & bonnet and having the 1x1 on top.

I'm stoked to say the least!

$1500 IIRC

It's about the worst way to shave 14lbs from the car imo...$100 per pound basically.

Maybe if it was a dedicated race car...even then it's about the last thing I would consider doing. Not that I am some expert on building race cars or anything.

This thread is ancient, but I'll play.

$1500 / 50 lbs = $30 / lb from the highest elevation on a track-focused car.

There are few better places to drop significant weight, and at only $30 / lb, there are few significant weight-saving mods less expensive.

The OP clearly states the car is tracked. This isn't a mall cruiser.

Do the math, junior.

Ah I see what you meant.

14lb savings if you don't have a sunroof. The sunroof assembly would have to weigh 36 lbs for it to be 50 lbs of savings. Maybe it does weigh that much?

If the sunroof assembly does weigh 36lbs in total a simple sunroof delete would be a better bang for the buck vs. CF roof. Especially when you consider $/lb.

Edit: To go on if you just want to delete your sunroof you could glass it yourself vs. buying a cf insert and really save $$$ for the best $/lb savings.

Edit #2 different mods for different people. Removing weight high up on a car has it's advantages.
