Question Would you guys live in a house where someone DIED?

We are looking to find a larger house since we are expecting our second child this summer. Two weeks ago, we found a nice house that has been vacant for at least 8 months. After viewing the home and talking to the real estate company, we found out that the house is in a short sale (owned by the bank) now. The reason behind this is because the man who had it built lost his trucking company and went bankrupt; his wife and 3 kids left him around Christmas last year; and he ended up committing suicide in the house around Easter.
It doesnt bother me, but my wife is a little weirded out by the history of the home. It is definitely a situation that I have not come across before. Whats even more weird is that many of the FAMIY PICS are still in the house!
So would you even consider this or walk away (BTW, we can probably get the house for 50% of original value)

how did he die? If there is still blood splattered on the wall along with remnants of a shotgun blast, then no. But if there aren't anymore "traces" of the guy around, then sure.

The agent is not really sure. But in the master bedroom, it "appears" as if there is a darker stain in the carpet, and a very elongated oval hole in the wall adjacent from this spot. I think CSI: Las Vegas would have to conclude that it was by self-inflicted GSW in the master bedroom. What is so strange is that the carpet was note replaced or the GS hole in the wall repaired. Understandably, the family is probably not coming back for anything either, and they just want to get rid of the thing.

Depends on how he/ she/ them had died.

Peaceful and in bed while sleep? ....or hacked to pieces after getting raped by a deranged mass murderer?

Makes a big difference ....in my mind, at least.

I would have a hard time living in a home where I'd seen visible signs of where the previous owner had blown his own head off. Even if it were 100% fixed by the time I moved in I'd probably think about it too much.

If I'd never seen what you described or if the previous owner had died non-violently then it wouldn't be an issue to me.

She was actually a little more relieved that it happened in the master instead of one of the kid's rooms. If it would have happened in one of their rooms, there is no way she could get past this.
She has started to see how great a deal this is. It is sad that the previous owner's life took a tragic turn, but it does not have any bearing on me personally.
Plus this is such a GREAT deal on this house. It truly is almost 50% off the original value of the home. In our area, the housing downturn did not affect us too much except that some people living beyond their means have been having trouble like everywhere else. So we could essentially make a few hundred thousand dollars on the home as soon as it is purchased. Just from a business standpoint, it really is hard to turn down.

Ive seen two houses whom people have died in, and it just gave me goosebumps being inside. I would never buy it, this subject property your looking at has one hell of a past. Im happy they told you though, its the law.

I'll be scared everytime I come out of the shower in the night.

If you were to buy it and resell it sometime down the road, would you have to disclose what happened to the previous owner again?
