BMW never really was interested in competing against Ferrari, McLaren, and Porsche. They did make the M1 which was almost never built but it was never really supposed to be an effort to be viewed as an all out performance brand like Ferrari, Porsche, etc. etc.

I couldn't care less about these cars. They are for rich people with too much money to blow away. I'd rather see something good at a price that makes sense.

Why a plug in hybrid. You already have the i8 with pancake wheels. Give us a real mid engine sports car BMW!

Hell I agree 100%!! I love that perfect mesh point of everyday usability and track ready cars that don't sacrifice too much of one or the other.
I.e. M3/4, 911, cayman s 981, Audi RS cars. But thats just me. Granted the cayman is a 2 seater but still usable and a brilliant car.

+1 with better front lights

And yeah like many folk I'm not going to pretend I can afford something like this if it's made but I still think BMW could go for a McLaren/Ferrari competitor at the 100-250k mark (but not the 600-900k mark).

Before they compete with 800hp $1M cars, they first need a car that compete on the Ring with a $55k base engine C7.

“At a meeting of top management everyone argued against the LFA. Even people in charge of R&D argued against it,” Akio says. Their objections went to the core of an opinion that had been germinating in his mind for some time.

“None of the directors at the time were interested in cars,” he says. “When I was learning to drive with Naruse, none of them would join me. Now I say everyone involved with the company must love cars. If they are not interested in cars I say they should get another job.” Clearly the LFA project held implications far beyond the car itself.
Wish someone at BMW was like Akio Toyoda.
