I HATE FOX! (re: their news scare tactics)

I HATE Fox!!

Thats all..

Some examples if you're curious:
"What you don't know about your washing machine that could kill your children."

"Student killed on escalater, tune in to find out how deadly they really are..."

And the latest, there was an awful, horrible accident where a kid had those sneakers with wheels on, rolled too far into the street getting mail from the mailbox and gets hit by a car. Pure tragedy, pure accident. Sure enough, they go nuts over this, absolute nuts (like we didn't see this coming) every commercial break tonight they show kids rolling on them and you hear "Your kids may be wearing sneakers that could kill them. Should you allow them to wear them, are they safe..."

I absolutely HATE Fox.

Okay I feel better. Feel free to vent as well.

PS. I'm picking up my E90 on Thursday!!!! Wahoo!!!

Yeah.... the media is no longer a vehicle for information. It s a business that capitolizes on urgency. I also blame any dip in economy or the slowing down of the housing market on them.

My favorite is: "You could be eating something that could kill you.... tune in at 11." Its no different than: "You could be makeing millions from your home.... pay us $99 and we will tell you how."

LOL some guy in my previous class did a presentation on how the media and ads are no longer what they used to be. People think of the news as a form of entertainment nowadays. If there are things getting blown up or people getting killed, they will tuned in in a heart beat. Otherwise, they'd rather go on E90post.

Yeah, I hate the sensationalism. It's bad in all stations, IMO, however. Could be worse though, imagine if our only station was Al Jezeera.

One thing I like about Sirius Radio I got with my car is that I can avoid some of the local yokelism, especially with sports.

Yeah. Fox is the only news outlet that would do that.

Jeez!

That kind of advertising for the news isn't limited to Fox. Just about every single news channel on the planet uses those kinds of tactics. The local news is the worst about doing it. Every day there is some teaser like, "What you are eating for dinner tonight could kill you. Tune in at 6pm to find out what it is." Damn news shows.

How about how they tease the weather through 2 or 3 commercial breaks.

My buddy is actually an anchor here in Baltimore so I can't complain too much

Yeah, most local news, and news stations in general try to do this, I think Fox is the worst though..

"What you don't know about your washing machine that could kill your children. If you love them, tune in..."

Its sad what they do to get our attention. I personally hate the news, I never watch it. Here's the local news every day - "Someone got shot, there was a bad car accident, a fire, this food can kill you and cause cancer, and there is going to be an incredibly bad storm (which ends up being nothing)." I never understood why people watch it..

ha ha, that's funny you should mention that because i was just watching our local news (that just started broadcasting on FOX53 as well) and there was a "break news" story that one of our inclines crashed into its station and many are missing and even more are dead. an hour later, a true story came out where it turned out the incline only bumped the station while doing it final parking maneuver and absolutely NO ONE got hurt or even scratched, nothing.

those stations are so desperate for a story it's not even funny...

The news shows are ridiculous. They blow everything out of proportion. The weather thing gets me too.

PS. I hate the weather thing too. And the fact that they are always wrong. And there are extremely expensive satellites in space to predict the weather. But in any case, weather.com takes 2 seconds to learn weather, the local news, they finally tell you after half an hour. I don't bother with the news at all.

Hardly anything on? If you like music in any variety, it's there. Commercial free. There's right wing talk & left wing talk. There's Stern, Maxim, ESPN, and even Kids Programming.

I haven't gone back to the FM or AM dial since Sirius.

Local Fox news here in the Philly area is just as bad. My wife and I call the weather guy "Chicken Little" because his teasers are always along the lines of "Severe Weather headed our way!!!!!". Then, if you tune in, they give the forecast with 5 mins left in the 60 minute broadcast.

Actually, the biggest problem is probably that they're trying to fill 60 minutes with nonsense.

Awhile back SNL did a skit where they had a news anchor team saying stuff like "A common household product that you probably have under your sink can instantly kill you... but first Lorraine Sky and the latest on teeth whitening".

The networks made news into entertainment. They have to get those ratings to get paid. All programming is the same, to get you to buy stuff.
I prefer Fox News Channel because of the 'fair and balance' angle (please don't flame me) but I'm getting tired of the teasers too.

Me neither. I love it. There's a thread around here about favorite Sirius stations....but anyway, the percieved value of Sat Radio probably also depends upon how badly one's local stations suck. When I lived in Philly I liked WMMR, but it's probably changed since then. We have a serious case of provincial Sports radio here in Pittsburgh, except for one personality, whose schtick it is to be anti-burgh. I'm into Blues, and you can't get that for more than an hour on weekends in most places. I was a little disappointed with Raw Dog, as much of the afternoon is taken up by comedians who think they're intrinsically funny... but they actually aren't funny when out of monologue. (Like Last Comic Standing on TV, I guess), still, I've heard killer stuff. Too bad I had to explain to my daughter that she won't find Disney on her radio clock. I think I actually get enough politics from e90post.
