I've always wondered when quoting MPG numbers here whether those are US gallons or Imperial gallons. I've assumed US gallons since most posters are based in US.

7.2 KM/L = 16.9 MPG US
7.2 KM/L = 20.3 MPG Imperial

Hmmm good to know. I just used some convertor I found on Google. I'm guessing the U.S. cars are using U.S.?

Ahh... don't believe everything you look up.. sometimes you need your math to get across the logic...

Metric readings for the car are volume/distance.. ie, litres/100km. For the US, (and imperial) you have the readings as distance / volume, ie, miles / gallon. US Gallons are smaller than imperial.

So, assuming you mean the 7.2 reading from your car, that is 7.2 litres/100 Km

From there, the story goes like this:

Readout:
litres / 100km= 7.2
so >litres/km= 0.072
1 Km = 0.6213712mi so >litres/mile=0.115872767
1 Litre = 0.2641721 US Gallon so >USG /mile=0.030610352
1 Litre = 0.2199692 Imp Gallon so >IMPG/mile=0.02548844

Converting to Miles per Gallon:
Miles / USG = 32.66
Miles / ImpG = 39.23

My readout clearly says 7.2km per liter. I can read.
I wish I got 32 MPG.

Looking at the 2014 335i (N55), "they" say in the brochure that the combined Automatic is 8.1L/100km, (the standard is worse at 8.6) which works out to 34.8 miles per Ontario Gallon .. so it's possible it seems ..

..and out there on the Fore OH! Won! you apparently can get it down to 6.1 L/100km, which is, like.. 46.3 miles per ImpG. That's why I was thinking you were using the L/100km. Apparently, your mileage, as they say may "suck"

but they also say that city only is down at 10.3 per 100 for the standard which translates to 27+MPG.... then again, Toronto Traffic could make you burn a tank just idling your way across the city..

As an aside, it looks like anyone with a standard uses measurably more fuel than the new computerized 8 speed autos. How times have changed.

I believe this thread reflects 335(IS) N54 cars. And yes some of my driving consists of bumper to bumper on the Gardiner. I clearly had better mileage on my e90 N54. Guess you pay at the pump for the extra ponies.

For sure, it takes more fuel to make more power on a given setup. I have an E92 N54 now, and it's been pretty good compared to my wife's car. There is a new 435 coming on the boat to replace it, with the optional PPK to 335 HP on the N55, so it will be interesting to compare the efficiencies of the new vs old.

Went from a 2011 N55 to a 2013 N54is. With almost identical daily driving routes, the N55 got 22.3mpg, the N54 is getting 20.6. That's about an 8% drop. However, while I drove the N55 enthusiastically, I tend to drive the N54 like a semi-lunatic. This may account for some of that difference.

Ya think? I suspect that will also be my problem with the new one.

I think you guys need to calculate the mpg your self. When i was stock it said 25.5 but fueling it and calculating milage it was around 27.3. My idrive says 17.5 was my avg on a 380 mile road trip i just took. Going about 78-83mph once i got off the highway i fueled up again and did the math and came out to about 31.3. Reason for my mpg is so inaccurate has something to do with the mods in my sig. I also leaned out my cruise afr to about 15.1-15.3:1 which helped a little.
