No doubt on a NA 328, but I have a 335 which adds some potential problem areas in the engine plus mine is AWD.

This mechanic will probably get a lot of hate from forum members who properly maintain their car, but you have to understand that the majority of owners (especially with the low entry price of used 3 series now) will not properly maintain their cars.
I plan to keep mine for 5 years / 100k at most. Depending on the car's worth at that point will determine if I keep it in the garage or trade it in for whatever the next toy is.

I've only had it for 2 months. It's been in the shop 5 times for recall and sensor issues. I want my Lexus back. lol I thinking within another year if a new kid arrives.

Which recall & sensor issues if you don't mind me asking? I have an n55 as well and rarely hear of major issues unless it is high mileage. Compared to the n54 at least.

VANOS bold recall but I think it depends on your build date. Check with your service provider. My adaptive headlight malfunction sensor indicator came on twice. They can't seem to find any issues. My rear brake pad sensor came on yesterday. Indicates minimum wear. Service provider stated they check the brakes two weeks ago and no issues. Says it must be a sensor.

My 2007 is a tank. I find owning cars is no different than life. You need a certain amount of hard work and luck. Some people have had a rough time with their cars. I've never had a rough time with any vehicle I've owned but I really take care of my cars.
Today I went to test drive a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. I'm considering trading in my car but they didn't give me a great offer. I wasn't in the mood to negotiate so I just left. It's tough going back to American from a German car. I think I might just keep my car for another few years. |

Only just bought mine, give me a chance!!
Well I've had it a few months. E92 2007 335i 63,000 miles. It's a weekend toy really & I'm hoping to keep it 5 years at least whilst slowly modding it. |

I plan to keep it till I hit 100k like my last car, which I drove for 10 years. It was an Acura though...super reliable and low maintenance...way less fun to drive
Since the 335 is my daily driver I estimate I will hit 100k around 4 years from now. |

Until lease end, which will be slightly after warranty expiration for me. Im not a DIY'er, so I dump these cars before the warranty is gone and im on the hook for expensive repairs. I also get bored of cars pretty quickly.

Until I can afford a 911 turbo haha. I think 5 years is what BMW wants you to think so that they can sell you another very quickly depreciating car. That's probably why they tell you to change the oil every 15K miles!

I remember buying a new Toyota Supra in 1987 and people telling me that all those complex electronics (!) would make it unreliable after a few years. People make judgements based on the past - fair enough - without taking into account the impact of improved technology.
I'm currently planning to keep this car for 6 years or so - by then I'll be 70 and it will be time for a Tesla or equivalent. |

I got my 97 E36 328 about 10 years ago 215k miles and runs fine, uses almost no oil. It too was considered overly complicated in its day. |
