If you the Cobb writes but no restart to clear the systems, there should be a way for the Cobb to handle the awd function. Im on the fence still between Cobb and JB4 again, I had the JB4 in the past but now I want to build more power in the future. Either one figures it out Im sold.

Could it be so easy just to put a switch in the ground or signal wire for the Transfer case so it faults? And other than it taking out the 4x4 control system would it ripple down and disable abs and dsc?

Yes. Turn off controller, & all traction control is off, many errors. Disconnect servo from controller & 4X4! error and you cannot turn off traction control.

From everything I could tell the DTC was off. I was able to power oversteer and drift really easily.

This is just a guess since I can't see the software for myself, but it seems like the Cobb doesn't do anything to/for the AWD system. The fault looks like its part of the normal procedure of writing updates to the ECU then restarting the whole system. Kinda like a computer reboot after a OS update. I just didn't restart the car and just kept driving. As soon as the car turned off then on again it came back to normal with no sign of the 4x4 error.

Then a box like procede or JB4 that interrupts the input/output so the car sees what it needs to be happy but allows us say a small pot controller to adjust gain on what the front wheels see.

My $.02 worth

I have an 11 e90 335ixMT, with JB4 removed i.e. stock last winter I experimented with traction control settings one early morning and with the 4x4 light on I drifted every virgin parking lot I could find for over an hour and am pretty sure the front wheels were either not engaged at all or barely engaged. I can't remember if it was a push and hold or multiple pushes but once the 4x4 light came on the fun began and ABS still worked but all the traction control nannies were disengaged.

What I'm more interested in, HOW to Disable the top speed limiter? at a buck 35 my car shuts off, the dealers look at me like I'm Charlie Manson and Terry says that it can't be done on the xi.

i had a Volvo R Wagon with the same problem and the dealer reprogrammed it but could not "verify" that it worked, It did!!

I don't know for sure but I'm almost positive it wouldn't be good for it. I've pulled my fuse for fun and did a few burnouts for fun and can confirm it definitely works but the open diff in the back is obviously isn't set up for being rwd so it doesn't put the power to the ground at all. When going around a corner it just spins the inner wheel. It's pretty useless IMO unless you wanna trash some tires.

I just put mine back on over the weekend. I only ran without it for about 7-8 weeks but everything still works fine now that all is back to normal. I don't see any good reason why there would be long term effects but, for me at least, there definitely weren't any immediate impacts.

I can spin all four tires also. Not for a long time, but long enough. I have many more bolt on then you have, plus I am running 70% E85. With the new JB4 and a back end flash. The way I spin all four tires the longest on dry pavement is to power brake it off the line with my AT. The newer JB4 lets you built up a lot more boost like that, then the JB3 did. I used to have the JB3 so that is coming from experience. Get the JB4 so you can use the BB back end flash files. Major improvement, you will love it!!! Plus go get DPS, inter-cooler and a lpfp that lets you run E85 without a problem.

Go to Burger Motor Sports, they sell the part that disables the top speed limiter. I haven't had a limited top speed in years. I agree with you, 135 for a top speed is just plan wrong and very annoying. Plus the speedometer looks nice pinned at 160 :-) Its cheap too! Enjoy!

Sorry I just read that you have a N55. My mistake. Someone else has got to sell it, I would think?

I just read from page 1 to 29 and it kind of sucks that no one has made major headway on this subject yet. I'm in Cali until the spring with a 335xi 6MT.
