What does she say at the end? I can't make out what she's saying. Sounds like "Nespa"...

Had to look it up. It's "N'est-ce pa"s.. It's french for "isn't it so?". The Cadillac ad ends with the same phrase...

Just a question, but why was the first commercial controversial?

I wasn't sure either. I know BMW shuts down in August but that's when they retool and the entire continent goes on vacation. It's not like that doesn't happen in the US either.

GM releases a 62 second long commercial, and I have to wait until the 44 second mark to see the damn car. By the time I do get around to seeing it, it takes me all of 3 seconds to realize they want 75K for what amounts to a Volt with leather seats.

Worst. Car Company. Ever.

I was honestly a bit surprised myself because I didn't think anything of it when I first saw it other than the car is overpriced lol.. Apparently it got a lot of backlash from critics. I think they were going for patriotic and showing the virtues of hard work, but some people saw a materialistic rich jerk who was French bashing.

To be honest when I read articles (and comments attached to the articles) it really came off as a right vs left thing. I remember the ad drawing criticism specifically from Huffington Post and Slate Magazine.

The ad didn't bother me at all. My issue is more with the volt in a 40k tuxedo. I really like Caddy (I drive one) and all the new products they're coming out with, but I'm not a fan of the ELR..

I can understand people thinking that way, but an American car company making a pro-American ad seems like decent marketing to me. Anyway I do agree the ELR is way overpriced and ugly.

Ford's ad is controversial. They chose a black person to parody the Cadillac ad except under the guise of a poorer, poop collecting person strolling in the dumbs. Racist.

The ELR is an image car and the commercial is selling that image.

Whether the ELR is a vehicle that will be successful in stating that image, I doubt it. But the ad was perfect for what GM is at least trying to do. Maybe the CTS V-Sport would have been a better option, but the V-Sport is about performance than image.

I agree 100% with what your saying. The commercial was a superbowl commercial that was purposed in raising company awareness among younger adults. It accomplished that.

I have heard about the "controversial" cadillac commercial without ever seeing it until now.

Having just seen it, i personally dont see whay all thw fuzz is about.

IMHO: I think people and journalist are looking too much and reading too much between the lines.

The car is aimed are the 1%, top tier of the population, the car is priced as such... period.

I cant afford it, but i am not going to say its a bad car or bad commercial because of it.

And for the Ford commercial, i think its awesome!!!
Its taking the carbon copy, then twist to aim it at the younger or more creative, real eco minded and financially savy part of the population. The end product is a car that perfectly fit that market.

Both commercial are very well done.

I think people are seeing more evil in these spots than there really are.

Wow, I got the totally opposite of that. I got; young, hardworking city farmer(wearing a Carhartt jacket - I've got two), new-age, and a planet-caring, strong person, regardless of gender or ethnicity. Totally opposite of the rich white dude in the Caddy from the burbs (the point of the commercial). Which matches the two cars perfectly, ELR extended-range electric ('Burbs), Fiesta Electric (City)

Now just for the record, I don't go for the planet-caring part crap; and rich white dudes are still cool.

Bottomline, both good effective commercials
