Got PPI results back, should I still get into this E90 335i?

Hi everyone!

*EDIT*
I've updated the OP with an image of the PPI recommendations.

I'm new here but I hoping to join the E90 family possibly by tomorrow!

2009 335i, AT, Sport & Premium
71,XXX KM

I've received the PPI results from BMW Maranello for this beautiful E90 335i ( http://www.autotrader.ca/a/BMW/3+Ser...0811142122191/ )

The PPI indicates that an "Engine Leak" was found and suggests the following 3 services to be done on the car:

1)Perform Engine Shampoo
2)Replace engine oil filter housing gasket
3)Replace Valve cover gasket

Plus 3 more "optional services"

1)4 Wheel alignment
2)Fuel Injection Service
3)Cooling system service

The total cost to have the above 6 services came to $2,287.50

I do understand that I am buying a used car, and I'm willing to pay for it but should I?

I've only given the dealership a deposit of $500 so nothing is final, and was thinking the dealer should at least pay for half of the recommended services? or the entire price? or any?

Any input on the matter would be gladly appreciated!

Honestly never seen a PPI sheet. Pretty cool, thx for sharing. The two gaskets really are the only major things IMO and are known issues. Maybe you can work something out with them for the FAIL services?

Hey enthusiast,

thanks for the prompt response!

It will be my very first car, so I'm just looking for really any type of feedback.

Q: Is the gasket replacement something that's common for this car have done?

thanks again!

I believe it is.

Also, they should be able to just do the alignment for free.

Those leaks are very common on these cars, and nothing for alarm. They are also pretty easy to DIY too, if you are so inclined. I'd still try to get the dealer to do the work, but other than the leaks the other stuff is just regular maintenance. I wouldn't be too scared of the car.

Wait...Did you negotiate the price ? Even if you did, go back and show them the recommended work per the PPI and try to reduce the price a bit. GL !

^ both gaskets are about $100 in parts combined, get a pack of beer and diy to save 2g. Coolant and all the other fluids are definitely a good idea when you buy a used car anyways.

You can get both of those fixed for a few hundred at a competent indy shop.

I'd say buy it if you want it.. definitely not a bad list of problems as far as a 335i can have. Isn't a terrible thing to have done these thoroughly common repairs performed now than buy another car which will probably need them sometime down the road.

I am assuming your purchase is conditional on the PPI?

In which case my position with the dealer would be: remedy the faults found as per the PPI with no cost to me, to my satisfaction, or I walk away.

That's a very reasonable position to take and will be nothing new to them in terms of a customer response. Don't let them try to sell it to you as is with a discount.

There are always other fish in the sea, don't get emotionally attached to this one unless it is spot on.

Ask the dealer to fix the issues for free or take 2k off the sell price. They will most definitely opt to fix the problems since it will cost them a lot less than 2k.

In the event they refuse to do anything and you are still set on getting the car, take it to an Indy shop for the work instead

Hey guys!

Thanks for all your replies!

Today was the happiest days in my life!!

I did not even have to ask the dealer to cover any of the above mentioned services, he decided to cover the entire expense, and for my peace of mind also threw in an after market warranty at his cost.

I will probably do a write up sometime this week but for now I am just going to enjoy the rest of my night

After all was said and done, I am now officially a BMW owner!!

Very nice car and im sure you will enjoy it. I was going to purchase a 2010 E90 M3 from that dealer last year but i passed because i was unsure about them, my loss because now i can see they take care of their customers concerns. Will certainly give them a shot next time around

Congratulations on the purchase. I just had a quick look through the pictures and it looks like a great car and a very good price.
Enjoy your ride I know you'll love it!

The known is always better than the unknown.

Also those are common issues and I really see about $800 of necessary repairs at an indie repair shop with those items listed.

The rest are common suggestions.

I am curious as to how this is a sport premium car?

I just both a 2009 335 xdrive with sport premium package and it has the sport seats, navigation and a few other buttons in the center console. All for $3k less. However it has 11K more mileage.

PPI found no issues.

Nevertheless, nice looking ride. Congrats
