Ultimate Care Worth it for Lease Buyout
Hi All,
My 2018 M4 lease is coming to an end in the next few months. My car only has 12k miles on it. I'll be purchasing the vehicle and I'm considering getting a maintenance plan while I still can. Dealer is giving me the following offers: Scheduled Maintenance (+2 years, 75K miles): $2000 Full Maintenance (+1, 50k): $3100 Full Maintenance (+2, 75k): $4550 Full Maintenance (+3, 100k): $6000 Full Maintenance (+4, 125k): $7100 Any thoughts on if I should grab these offers given my low mileage? Does it look like there is room for a discount/negotiation? Also which of these options would be the sweet spot. I'll also be getting mechanical breakdown insurance from my lender, so no need for a warranty extension. |

Since you don't drive many miles, you need to go the time interval instead of miles interval. All you need is an oil change once a year and cabin air filter (depend if you live in a dirty area, LA is super dirty) every 3rd year, change out your intake filters and replace spark plugs. An oil change should cost you 100 bucks. Year 1 - $100 dollar oil change, plus 20 dollar cabin air filter Year 2 - $100 dollar oil change, plus 20 dollar cabin air filter Year 3 - $100 dollar oil change, plus 20 dollar cabin air filter, plus $50 (its like 20 each on FCP) dollar intake filter(s), plus 100 dollar for brake fluid change, plus 600ish for spark plug service So the next 3 years should cost you around ~1200 dollars if you take it to an indy shop for oil change, brake fluid, and spark plug, and replace your air filters yourself (which is a simple jobish)

I am also about to buy out my 2018 (F83) also with only 12K miles. I’m planning on buying an aftermarket warranty before my warranty expires and use a local Indy shop for maintenance. I hate the BMW dealer closest to me and don’t see a reason to drive 40 minutes to the next closest one for routine maintenance. Indy shop also works with warranty company. No way I’d prepay those prices for maintenance. I’ll pay lower shop rates as I go and suggest the same for OP.

I haven't quoted yet as I don't want to purchase until I get closer to the end of the factory warranty in about a year. However, I have purchased Fidelity warranties from Troy at FD-Warranty in the past for other cars, and found he is about 40% - 50% off dealership prices. $3,800 for 7 years on this car isn't bad if it is an exclusionary policy (i.e. covers everything bumper to bumper, except for a short list of excluded items).

I am thinking of things like a/c, roof, oil leaks, etc. as opposed to being worried about a complete power train failure, Repairs can be outrageously expensive. We spent $2,300 on a policy for my wife’s Q5 and ended up having around $10K in claims covered. Stupid retractable screen inside car for panoramic roof was $2,500 alone.

I have a CPO 18' with 20k miles. Just brought in for regular service.
Based on the time schedule it was due for oil, filters and plugs. About $900. The dealer offered me the 2 year plan for $1300 and it would cover the $900 service. Totally worth it in my opinion. I'm sure I'll get at least one other oil service. Plus I'm doing a couple of track days and maybe I'll get a brake job too. No brainer for me.

I was in a similar situation and recently bought out my 2018 M3 Comp. I'd suggest going the route of buying the Ultimate Care Scheduled rather than warranty or extended maintenance if you drive extremely low miles like I do. Its $899 for +2 years which covers standard maintenance items. It'll cover everything listed based on CBS (Condition Based Service). Won't cover things like new brakes or rotors.
