Should I quit my job?

I recently got a promotion doing similar things but in a different program. The problem is that I am bored and don't see myself doing this in the long run. I wanted to take some time off to travel but since I just recently transferred to this new program, it probably wouldn't sit well with my new manager.

I'm at a crossroad and I'm not really sure what to do. It kind of reminds me of that poem by Robert Frost- two roads diverge in the yellow woods...

Life is too short to ask trolls in OT what to do next. Quit your job, travel for 3 months. Then get back to it. You cannot be over 25, right?

28. Lol

Honestly that is exactly what I wanted to do before I got transferred. Might just follow my heart and do that.

Ask for an extended holiday due to your something. Not as rash as quitting and traveling, but sure is nice to know you have something to come back to.

I just did almost a month long road trip, and as a tip I can honestly say go to europe, go insane, get a car and just don't plan anything. Kill the sat nav bitch.

Main tips there.

Here is the process broken down.

1. Keep Your job
1a. Make the most of said job.

2. Meanwhile, job hunt.
2a. a lot.

3. Know your worth and keep searching; don't jump at the first offer that comes around.
3a. Don't believe that recruiter's hype. The one that just left that voicemail...you won't make that much.
3b. keep searching. Be picky.

-- You still have your job, right? You should --

4. Don't just use monster/careerbuilder/theladders for your hunt.

5. Come back when you find something worth pursuing

If you are seriously unhappy or miserable I'd say yes, so long as you can afford to.

It doesn't sound like you're actually hating it, though. So maybe stick it out for a bit so that you don't burn that bridge. Or as Lups said, maybe you can arrange to be away for some time. What's the worst that can happen, they fire you?!? Then you can travel with a clear conscience!

Yup. I thought about taking a few weeks off. I only have a week's worth of vaca though and I just started the new position under a new manager. It's a bit tough.

Take a few as unpaid too. Trust me, it is worth it. I just had my first holiday in nine years and it rocked. The blog in the signature was mostly written completely hammered.

I really want to. I asked about unpaid weeks. Only thing holding me back is that when I spoke to my former manager, he adviced that since I just started the new position, it's probably not a good idea to take a long vaca right away. I'm really struggling with the idea of just taking it off.

Actually, I could qualify for that. Never thought about it since it never really entered my mind. Thanks for bringing that up!

Why would t matter if you are not enjoying the job too much anyway? Take the unpaid holiday, go back to work, think of the next steps in life. And then sort out my life and a thank you Lups.

FMLA is an option but my first choice would be to find a job first that you can start in 90 days then check out for an extended vaca before starting something new.
