Panerai Anyone? Here's an example of my published work...

INSYNC magazine put a PDF on one of my most recent articles in their magazine up on their website:

http://www.insyncmagazine.com/pdf/9_...9_4_Review.pdf

It's a review of a Panerai diver's chronograph.

Enjoy!

Hey John, lol i still havne't sign up in your watch forum yet, but since you're here, I might as well ask you some horology questions...

What watch magazines wold you recommand to a casual WIS? For me I read the magazine for watch world news and check out some photography of different models. I usually skimp through the more technical articles regarding watch movements. I don't subscribe to any watch magazines right now but I usually go to local Barnes 'n Noble once a month to buy either IWC or Watch Time or InSync.. what do you recommand?

thanks,
-hkj

The only one of the magazines from above I don't recommend is IW Magazine. I did work for them for about a year and a half, two years ago. The magazine had a change in direction editorially after that and has gone down hill considerably since. Both WATCHTIME and InSync are good magazines. I'd say InSync is a little friendlier to the casual observer.

This is off topic, but John are you some sorta watch guru or rather knowledgeable? I've got a question about a watch if you are in fact.

Ok, I've got a Cartier Tank Francaise automatic i've had for 2 months now. I've never had an automatic before. But I've noticed in the past month or less it has gained 5 minutes. I don't think this is normal, but it may be. Thanks a lot man.

Mechanical watches are inherently less accurate than their quartz movement (i.e. computers) counterparts. Your Cartier is a self-winding (automatic) mechanical movement.

Sounds like your watch is gaining about 10 seconds per day, which isn't all that bad for a non-COSC certified mechanical timepiece. A mechanical movement can get COSC "chronometer" certification by passing a series of accuracy tests in various positions and temperatures for two weeks. The movement must have accuracy of no more than -4 or +6 seconds per day. Your Cartier isn't COSC certified for accuracy, but it's not running too far outside of COSC perameters.

Try synchronizing your watch to an atomic clock powered time source (like www.time.gov) and observe your watch's accuracy over 24 hours to get a better idea. If it's running more than 10 seconds fast, your Cartier dealer will likely be OK with adjusting to movement.
