I95 near Stamford, CT. Following an Acura MDX, both stopped at 86. Gave me ticket for 85 in 55, $294.

Should I just pay or fight it? I have a long list of tickets (I was reckless when younger and it's still burning me). I just had my 4th driving course two months ago. Was suspended twice last summer (30 days + 45 days). Does anyone know if I will get suspended again? I can't keep track of DMV's system of points.

With your driving record,it will be tough to fight.

I have no idea what the CT point system is. However, based on the scenario you described, I'd be prepared for the worst. If your record is that bad, fighting is probably futile and will just bring out the wrath of the judge.

You prob need to contact DMV when the ticket gets posted to their system to figure out your options. Not sure how it works in CT, but how are you really gonna fight it?More importantly, you gotta slow down out there bro. Not to preach or anything, but fom the sound of it your tickets are not isolated incidents at all. If you speed excessively on a regular basis, you will get tickets on a regular basis.

Yea, I do. It bothers me though because I really never speed anymore but the few times I do I get caught. Last night I was going that fast because there were no cars out and flow of traffic (for the few cars out) was 75 and up.

If I fight it I wouldn't go to judge at all, I'd just get a lawyer to talk to prosecutor to cut a deal, but realistically I don't know if it'll be worth it. Usually the prosecutors don't get your actual record in time for court appearance.

These are the kind of speeding tickets that just send me up a wall. As far as I'm concerned, there are 3 rules that govern how fast you may drive on the highway: 1. you must keep a safe following distance, 2. you must not weave through traffic, and 3. the road must have good visibility and traction.

I don't care if you're going 155 in a 55, if the road, weather, and traffic conditions are such that you can go that fast without breaking one of the aforementioned rules, then you are not driving unsafely and you do not deserve a ticket.

Given that the OP has had numerous tickets and suspensions, I'd wager that there is a bit more to this story.

I've been known to exceed the limits at times and (knock on wood) have not only zero tickets, but have only been stopped once (in 30+ years of driving - and that was for an expired tag on a relative's car)

Speed alone will hardly ever get you a ticket - standing out of the crowd will get you ticketed.

No there really isn't. Did you not see how much faster I was going? How could speed alone not get me a ticket?

Also to newsong, I don't speed like I used to. Because of the accumulations of points in my earlier years I'm still paying for them. Thanks for the assumptions though....assholes.

You speak as if you are a cop/judge. Are you a judge? Otherwise, I'm afraid your assertive dictation of safe driving style isn't worth much.

To the OP: You either need to slow down, or be more aware and on the look out for cops. If you get a radar detector, don't let it be your crutch. It's more of a LOS tool (unless you get a jammer). You still need to look out for cops. Especially if they use laser alot where you live. Because a detector won't do jack shit for you except let you know that you just got busted.

You said you were suspended twice last year. So basically you're still committing violations, at least to a degree that the state you reside in is suspending your license to get you OFF the road (not once, but 2x). You're in here complaining about getting another speeding ticket for 30MPH over the speed limit. You're in here asking for advice to solve your ticket problem.

I think my advice is sound, learn to not be so heavy on the pedal. No assumptions needed.

In your case, you and the MDX were standing out of the crowd in some way - perhaps there wasn't a crowd, perhaps the two of you were going faster than the flow of traffic, perhaps the cop thought you were racing, perhaps the cop thought "that's odd, a soccer-mom-mobile going faster than a BMW."

It doesn't really make a difference about what made you stand out, but the fact isthat you did.

While you say that you don't speed like you used to, your statement about two recent suspensions and the 4 driving courses - with the last being 2 months ago - speak otherwise.

Here is my advice.

Try to figure out what it is that makes you a ticket magnet and change that behavior - slowing down alone won't fix it.

That sucks.
Basically your points on DMV stays for 3 years but they stay 5 years on insurance record. Lets say,you got 4pts 1 year ago, 3pts 2 yrs ago, 3 pts 3yrs ago, 5 pts 4yrs ago. Then your DMV record shows 10pts on your record thus 2 pts below suspension line. But your insurance premium is going to be calculated based on 15 pts.
Plus, your suspension record is going to factor in as well.
