So let's compare apples to apples. A used 2010 GT-R with 30k miles will set you back about $70k.
The 360 or earlier model Gallardo are downright snores to drive in comparison to the GTR. There's really almost no comparison other than if you are a hardcore manual zealot, or a total attention whore (which lets face it, half of the Italian car owners are). I'm a manual trans snob, but I broke down and bought the first auto trans car of my life, and I'm here to tell you that the GTR is by far.....by far.....the best car I've ever owned. It is absolutely mind blowing, especially once you add a few relatively inexpensive mods. My 335 is so downright boring to drive even on E85, JB4, etc in comparison that I've honestly thought about selling it and just dailying the GTR while loving every second of it.

Awesome dealers like this don't help:

As for looks, it's a car that the younger male demographic tends to love... but women are (at best) apathetic about.

Maintenance and consumable costs are also insanely high -- the cost to track the car (and extract its incredible potential) is pretty ridiculous

You surely do not buy a GTR for its interior. The ZR1 has an awful interior, but that hasn't stopped people from buying it. It's not a luxury car, so I don't expect much.

you have a very good point.

i think i was going off my own feelings which might not be inline with the masses. i personally wouldn't buy a zr1 either. i use to really want a gtr but the more i looked at it, the more i thought that i can get something that was a bit nicer and combined somewhat close to that kind of power.

in addition, if i was going to spend exactly that much money, i would almost opp for a slightly used super car that was more appealing to me than a brand new gtr.

The interior of the GTR isn't nearly as bad as that of a Corvette. I've had both. It's maybe a half step down from a G37 in my book. Plenty of creature comforts, reasonably well made, and the materials aren't terrible to touch. There are a few bits of cheap painted plastic and a few rattles here and there, but it is certainly no sentra on the inside. I'd say it's as nice as a loaded Maxima which for world class grip, 700+ hp and mid 10s in the quarter mile for around 80k invested is a downright nice place to be.

i was being over dramatic when i said sentra.

if it was 80k, then it would be worth it. they haven't been around that price for some time though.

However it does beat most of them on the track that cost 100-300k+ more. It was created to directly compete with the Porsche 911T. With a Brand new GT-R you can get a faster car for about $50k less. $50,000??? And with Porsche they make lots of money on the options. So basically the base price of a E92 M3.

We all have our preferences and I'm not trying to song like a poster boy for the GT-R cause I'm not. So I stick with my original point which is I don't think the price is high for what you are getting. Nissan should have spent much more money on the marketing cause I still don't fully understand how a car so heavy can do the things it can do.
In that case, the only reason for the GT-R's existence is performance...not looks, comfort, quality, etc.

Then every person should be buying an Ariel Atom and saving $25,000 under the GT-R.

what started out as 77k car, now well over 100k; can anyone justify this jump?
And that's over 3 years period.

They were losing their ass on each car. The price jump is enormous.

Probably part of the reason there may not be a successor. If there is, it will be well over $100k.

Lots of interesting perspectives on this, but I actually agree with a lot of what has been said...I recently traded out of a F430 into a GTR thinking that it is the ultimate machine in terms of performance....and it absolutely is....there are only 3 current production cars that are faster to 60 and the quarter mile, Veyron, Aventador, and 997 Porsche 911 Turbo S.

But the GTR does lack a level of sophistication on the inside that one would expect at 100k. Which is the main reason I'm trading out of the black edition for an F10 M5. If you're looking at just performance, its hard to argue with the numbers on the GTR though, 0-60 2.8 secs, 1/4 mile 10.9 secs, ability to pull 1.4 g's in a corner......not even the 458 can match that, and it costs 3 times as much.

Hmmm........did anyone check out the new 2012 carrera S price???? Starts from $96,000 without options.....!!!!

I do wish it was cheaper but the market is like this. The prices have inflated for every new coupe coming out.
