Anyone know how to write a legal brief...

For my legal studies class they gave us a case and said brief it, but never told us how. Does anyone know the proper format or how exactly to brief the case...?

I don't think there's one set way.

Usually I used do it this way:

Style of Cause: Roe v. Wade
Court: (1973) US Supreme Court
Facts: ...
Issue: ...
RATIO: ...

But this is up in Canada...you Americans probably do it differently.

damn i use to be really good at this stuff back in college in business law classe maybe I'll look around and see if i have any stuff from that class to help you out.

I found a model online and just used the headings and subheadings from there but the case they gave us, i think its right but well find out tomarrow when i have the class. Thanks for trying to help guys, i appreciate it

Space, i did it basically the same way you have it just different heading names.

Acknowledge the counter-argument. It won't help your case to ignore any valid arguments that can be made by the other side. Address these arguments and explain to the court why your case is different. Distinguish any relevant cases that do not support your argument on their facts.
