E90 DME/ECU Update Probs
Need some help.
Picked up a used 328xi, US version, N52, Sept 2006 production date. While going thru a complete software update with winkfp and the 53.3 full daten files, I ran into two problems I can't find solutions for, and the circumstances really baffle me. The DME doesn't update in comfort mode, returning an error about the zusb not in assembly line data. The data is updated, I've done this 100 times on other cars, and I've quadruple-checked the files to make sure everything is there. So I went poking around to get some answers: 1. The DME is an MSV80, ZUSB shows in the UIF as 7573452. Part # shows in the Ident as 7567362. 2. bmwfans.info shows the zusb as a RMFD control unit DME, programmed. Production Sept-Oct of 2006, discontinued, no new part, shows old part of 7571748. 3. Neither of those numbers are in the zusb list if I try to manually choose the module and ZUSB. 4. Looking them up manually thru the assy line data and revision histories, 7573452 and 7571748 are in the MSV80.HIS file, and are referenced in the assy line data files. 5. Look up the original DME by vin decode, shows the correct part # to be 7567367, which references a reconditioned part # of 7567362. Ok. Why would this have had a reconditioned DME from the factory? I have all the service records from the BMW dealer dating back to the vehicle delivery. There's no mention of any replacement of any module. So am I to assume that this DME cannot be updated, or what? Granted, it's not critical to update this, but if I'm missing something....??? The EGS is even more complex: 1. ZUSB is 7572763 (part # not found), actual part # in ident is 7572198 (not found either). 2. Neither is listed in winkfp as a valid zusb number. 3. The zusb shows in the GM1912.his file, and the assy line data files. 7572198 actually has a .0pa file and is in the HWNR.DA2 and GM1912.DAT file. The ECU I need to update, since there's some shifting issues with the car, as well as a couple other nagging things it does that clearing adaptations and resetting the module doesn't cure. So, anyone with some knowledge that can help - fire away. I'm all ears at this point. If I hadn't made this clear, every other module had a clear update path, no errors. I've re-downloaded the daten files in case of corruption, and I've tried both 50.2 and 53.3 (currently using). |

Hmm looking in MSV80.HIS I see 7587250 can you not manually select this? And if not, how about editing the files adding it ZB-NR HW-NR and SW-NR referring to correct 0pa and 0da files....

Assuming you got 7587250 from following the upgrade path (7573452->7574708->7574240->7576634->7580362->7580894->7587250) where that's the end of the line.
There's no 0pa or 0da files that correspond to any of those numbers in the chain, and they're not in the MSV80.DAT file. That's the part that is confusing, they SHOULD be there, but they're not. Checked both versions, the DAT file is 9k, and the MSV80 folder has 158 files in it @ 141.2Mb. It SEEMS to be complete. Even if I could add a line into the DAT file for it, there's no corresponding files for any of them. |

In which case you a stuck. ISTA-P is worth a try. Or depending on how much you want to investigate the issue, try reverting back daten versions until the zb number is included with corresponding 0da and 0pa files. Eventually you will find it.
Also, put out an add to see if anyone else with the same spec vehicle as yours has that part number for DME and get them to check their UIF... |

Finally got around to trying this with v41 full daten, and nope. None of the zusb's show up at all in any selection.
I have checked the I-level charts, and I did find my car production time corresponds to the v27 daten, so if anyone has a link or the e89 full files avail for v27-v40, with the assy line data, I'd like to give that a try. Otherwise, i'm beginning to think the EGS and DME in this car were replaced at some point, with RMFD units. |
