hmm... having watched video.. this is why I buy BMW and not the other. What a brilliant idea, damn it. the headlights are so cool, the whole shape is cool, i dont know what is wrong with you people not imrpessed by this. This is by far the coolest thing I've seen done to a conventional car ever, period! What were you guys expecting? An M1 race car. BORING. Chances are 95% of you won't be able to afford it anyway and what is so groundbraking about BMW race car. Nothing really, just another thing to put up against Porsche and Audi and Merc in the german's arms race. This is so so much more and indeed, this will be copied by everyone now. Bravo. I bet Bangle had this whole idea for a long long time and i'm glad it's getting somewhere. in 10 years may be all cars will be built like this, changeable paint, shapes, etc. Stunning shit!

The boot shape is the most awful part of the design, why are BMW insisting on continuing with this design that has been the ruin of such cars as the 5,6 and 7series.

well hey.....at least all you'd have to do now is toss your BMW's "skin" into the washing machine and be good to go haha......instead of detailing all that shit for hours and hours.

why you guys seriously commenting on design.. this is a concept car where concept is the skin of the car... they aren't previewing new design, more like new idea of how to build cars... seems like some people only care about 20in rims and biturbo engine and cf splitters and blacked out grilles here, honestly!

Like... is it really necessary to for 200th time say that Bangle ruined the shapes of 5,7, etc? This is nothing new, and been said gazillion times by often same crowd who keep banging on about the great E30 and how new M3s are fat and unweildy... Ger a room, track nerds, lol.

And keep an open mind!

this is stupid, i cant believe bmw did this again. they keep releasing these concepts, with no intentions on bringing them out. we are almost 2 years behind the AUDI R8. Yet, they are still at the drawing board, with no direct answer to it. I for one am pissed, at the fact that they couldnt release something that has the intention on being released.

did you know about this? Chances are you don't know about what BMW is working on. They are pretty good at disguising their prototypes. Noone heard a whiff about the Homage M1, nor about this. May be you don't know about other stuff. so many negative comments, amazing!

Thank you. You took the words out of my mouth. The concept is about the skin. It's quite fascinating. There hasn't been a single concept that I've seen anywhere like this. None. Props to BMW for its conceptual thinking. Sure it may not seem practical now, but you never know how this is going to be used in the future.

Audi still has yet to come out with a design language that's even remotely groundbreaking. The only thing that they've done is nudge some lines around on their cars, build them, and call them new. Also, any car company can build a supercar. The R8 is pretty cool, but it loses its flavour on a visual level after an hour... maybe faster than that. BMW, like most other companies, is most likely against having that 'me too' attitude.

Beside that, I'd like to see examples of what you mean when you say "they keep releasing these concepts, with no intentions on bringing them out." They're pretty good at releasing their concepts. For example, the CS1 is what the 1-Series is today. The CS is a study that we'll most likely see 4 to 5 years from now probably as a 7-Series. So wait and see.

Some of these responses have me shaking my head.

The GINA project was started when the Z8 was being developed, over 10 years ago. The point of the "concept" is to open doors on how cars are designed. The GINA concept was used to develop the Z4 and other present and future BMW cars. If you listen, Bangle says one way they use it is in design. They create a skeleton and then lay the fabric over top to see how the lines turn out. They can then adjust the skeleton on demand, and bam you have a new design and a new way of looking at design. The possibilities are endless!

It is brilliant design strategy and awesome out of the box thinking. This is how you innovate and continually keep your product fresh and provide solid direction for the future of the brand.
