Well only half of my brushes with death were the result of others. That is why I gave it up. I just didn't balance my adrenaline out with enough sense.

Save the adrenaline for the track if you need a rush.

Yeah well when you're in the San Diego area, it's easy to find roads that are a blast to drive. I was younger and stupider for sure, along with the fact that I had some friends that were just as bad as I was.... It was just a bad situation. People say save it for the track.... That's much easier for me to do in a car than it was on a bike...

The only people that can spot bike on the road are other bikers. Other than that we don't exist to regular drivers.
Here is a picture of the article that came out the next day after the accident on a german newspaper. The article basically talks about how people is not aware of bikes. Riders are finally taking their bikes out after a long winter sleep. It also goes on to tell drivers to be careful and try to be more aware, that bikes are out there and they need to be looking for them.

i usually hear bikes before i see them come up from behind me. my worst fear is that a quiet one will come up, stay in my blind spot and i would side swipe them changing into their lane.

That's why my first mod on any bike is an exhaust system. The louder the better.

Wow this makes me rage. How can anyone be so fucking stupid as to not see?

There needs to be an IQ test to be able to get your driver's license.

Also just a thought, why don't all bikes come with a multitude of bright flashing lights/LEDs that turn on once you're stopped or can be turned on before entering intersections?

That's crazy you made the paper. It is good that they're writing about that.

I try to make sure bikers know I notice them. I've had more than a hand full notice that I notice and give me the head shake thanks, wave, etc. A couple of guys have even pulled wheelies as a thank you. My uncle has been thrown over more than a couple of cars because they weren't paying attention, my dad witnessed it once.

I think people who are into cars or grew up around bikes tend to have a greater respect for others on the road. Most of us anyway.

I have had a group of bikers scare the living shit out of me before. I saw them coming up behind me in the distance driving very stupidly. One guy went to my left, one to my right. The guy that went to the right missed hitting my car by less than a foot.

I agree there's a lot of riders out there that are not very safe and when they get hurt thet better know they had it coming, but I think that the vast majority of riders are pretty safe and cautious. You also have to think that some inezperienced riders now are getting 1000cc machines that are waaaay too much for them to handle with little to no experience. Those are sometimes the ones that become a statistic. But in my case, I was just standing still, not even moving and still got into an accident, thats the ridiculous part.

theres no need for anything of the sort. us motorcyclists need to be extremely cautious when enter an intersection or a turn. when stopped at a light you can press your foot on the rear brake or pull in the front brake to get the brake lights going.

That sucks man! Glad you're ok! Do you mind if I share this on my motorcycle group? PNWRiders.com if you want to make sure we're ok - large motorcycling community in the Pacific Northwest of the US. They'd be very interested to see!

Sure, go ahead. I don't want this to happen to anyone else and if I can help I will be more than happy. We riders need to stay toguether and learn from other riders lessons, sometimes we can not afford to experience the same or make the same mistakes.

I called her and she said the insurance company made a mistake and now it will take even longet to get the money to fix the bike. She is also a handicapped driver, WTF, she is in a wheel chair. I dont think she needs to be driving.

Holy crap. I'm amazed (but glad) you weren't hurt. I'm surprised the insurance thing is taking so long. Always thought the German insurance program was pretty straight forward.

I owed an FJ1200 through the 90's but gave it up when I started having near misses *every* ride. It was always two or three close calls per riding season, but one or two scares on every ride made the whole thing not worth it. Eastern MA used to be a cool place to ride with the oceanside roads, but it became so overpopulated in the 90's that the roads were full of cars all the time. And that was all before every driver had a cell phone and iPod and such. I can't imagine riding these days when the idiots are all texting or watching DVDs or gabbing on the phone. Now I just enjoy the Zed and get my speed and G-force fix that way.

How do you figure? It would make you more visible, ie. less chance of an accident. However I guess you could tap brakes and flash high beams or something.

Having blinkers and lights flashing on your motorcycle would not solve the problem in my opinion. You would be more visible yes but your lights would be catching the attention of many drivers and would be another distraction(as if cell phones etc) wern't enough.

Part of riding a motorcycle on the road is learning how to counter and come out of tricky situations on muscle memory. That can only come with practice, training, and lastly experience. you can put all the lights one wants on a motorcycle but if people dont want to see you they wont. No amount of lights will not make the motorcycle any bigger. hence vehicles will always rule the road, partly because there are soo fucking many.
