E90 PT CAN Low/High tap
Hi,
I'm currently retrofitting an LDM module in my 2005 E90. This requires tapping 5 wires, power, ground, wakeup and PT can high/low. I managed to tap the power, ground and wakeup wire from the CAS module, however, i can't find the PT can high/low on the FRM module. This is the wiring diagram for the LDM: The PT can high and low are supposedly on FRM cable pin 43 and 44, but mine doesnt have any cables on pin 43 and 44: Does anyone have an idea where the PT can high and low can be tapped from near the CAS/FRM modules? Or do the wires for pin 43 and 44 need to be insterted by myself? |

ISTA diagram, X14260 Connector View, attached for 2005 325i shows PT-CAN as X14260/43 & 44 (Red wire, Blue wire), &
K-CAN as X14260/45 & 46 (Green wire, Orange/Green Wire). I don't see ONE of those 4 wires in your photo. Sure you have correct connector shown? There are TWO 51-pin connectors at FRM. If you will provide Last-7 Characters of your VIN, I'll check ISTA again. George |

I checked the part numbers of the wire connectors attached to the FRM, the uppper connector reads part numbers: 6931865/6931872 and the lower connector reads part numbers: 6931866/6931870. Apart from the inlet connector (which is a different one) these are the only 3 connectors on the FRM. The part number of the connector in the wiring diagram is 69318639 so it looks like a different connector. It's an EU car if that makes any difference. The last 7 characters of my vin are: KT54467. |

Attached are Pinout (PIB), SSP wiring diagram, Connector Location & Connector View for your vehicle.
This wiring diagram is SAME as that provided earlier, at least for the Pin #s of the Bus wiring on X14260. I have NOT examined X14260 on my 328xi or any other E9x, and am simply providing info from ISTA. According to ISTA, my 3/2007 build E91 328xi has SAME bus wiring, colors & Pin #s. See attached pdf for links to References. Please let us know what you find, George |

I'm NOT sure WHY there would be a PT-CAN connection to the FRM. Perhaps ONLY on models with certain options (Xenon)?
ISTA's "Control Unit Tree" does NOT show the FRM on the PT-CAN bus, at least on my Halogen Headlight Model. If you need to connect to the PT-CAN bus, your FRM may NOT have Red & Blue/Red wires connected (from PT-CAN bus). Attached is an ISTA ScreenPrint showing Powertrain CAN Bus for your vehicle. George |

Indeed there are no Red/redblue wires from the FRM. I guess i have to split the PT can High and Low from the DSC since this is closest.

great news everyone, the pt can line can be located by removing the dash.
it is buried inside the main wiring harness behind the steering column. if you don't have any pt can lines in your frm you can safely pull it out of the main wiring harness from the left side as it does not lead to anywhere it is covered under some cloth tape, you will have to cut through the tape to gain access to it you should see the high and low line nipped inside two separate insulations at the end, you don't even have to solder! here is the illustration from tis https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iRJ...usp=drive_link here is what I see when I actually did it https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mU9...usp=drive_link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mTx...usp=drive_link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mgd...w?usp=drivesdk Last edited by sam9116; 04-21-2024 at 01:49 PM.. |

Couldn't you just use the PT-CAN from the DSC?

I dunno, not having ABS seems like too big of a risk just to save a couple hours.
I'm comfortable removing the dash. I have done it multiple times. I'd like to stick to factory methods and install locations as much as I can. Last edited by sam9116; 04-23-2024 at 02:41 AM.. |
