How many of you own your own businesses?

Lets hear your story.

Personally, I work in motion picture industry, but I started a small photography company that has been making about 20k a year with minimal work. Generally about 80 hours of photo work a year.

I don't have a website and I work exclusively via word of mouth. Which over the past 3 years has proven to be very reliable for me.

My clientele include,

Museum of Contemporary Art,
UCLA Armand Hammer Museum,
LACMA,
Santa Monica Museum of Art,
Billy Farrell Agency,
Patrick McMullan Company,
Vogue Magazine,
Victorias Secret,
Vanity Fair,
ESPN,
People Magazine,
In Touch,
Style Magazine,
and so on.

Basically I'm an event photographer, I shoot celebrity parties, and event's for the big art galleries in Los Angeles. But what sucks is that I hate shooting parties! It's one of those instances where I'm great at what I do, but I don't care to do it.

So I want to hear about your self employment experiences that you enjoy!

I have a company that is developing a machine which will compress peanuts into phonograph needles.

I've invested about 800K of my own money so far, but I'm pretty sure it will be a huge success.

I pretend to own a business that is a casting agency where I end up nailing the females on the couch...
at first I was losing a lot of money until I realized I can charge people to watch me do it online.

Now that we're on the subject, I've been thinking about changing the name of my business to Screw the Pooch. Does anyone have an opinion or any other suggestions?

I started a side business as well. Makes about $35K a year. It requires about 10 hours a week. Just hired first admin assistant for 1k a month salary. Really helps take the edge off running everything on your own.

I also work full time in a related industry.
