i was 23 almost 24 when i bought my current home (currently 26). I was lucky enough to find a job out of college that was higher paying than most so within 6 months of starting the job i was looking for home and within the first year i was a homeowner just before my 24th birthday. in fact i closed christmas eve 2008 - not a half bad christmas present to myself!

I live in a town home... 2200sq ft. $2200 per year in taxes... the desert southwest is very inexpensive in property taxes compared to say texas, nyc, chicago, etc... which allowed me to afford a higher sales price. I also write mortgages for a living so was able to get a lower than market rate also helping improve my buying power.

I live alone paying the mortgage and utilities all on my own although my gf lives here and still pays rent elsewhere in the event that we are fighting or separate that way she still has her own place to retreat to...

nothing worse than renting when you spend as much as you would if you had a mortgage.

one piece of advise to anyone who is considering buying a home vs buying a bimmer... buy the house first - its an asset. the car is a liability so should come second as you realize you have the financial ability to safely afford the house first and then leftover have enough to purchase the car.

I'm 26, last year I bought the townhouse I lived in during college from my parents, i gave them some cash and took over mortgage loan. Some of the guys on here have a point about right now being the right time to purchase, i own a two rental properties and I flip real estate full time now.

When you say buy.... Do you guys mean paid off? I thought these things were paid off in a series of payments over 10-15 years...? Still a student so pardon my lack of knowing.

+1. Housing slump and all, it's still depressingly expensive.

21, ten years ago. Now we are on our third house and buying a rental property. The housing market in Canada is winning.

I was 28 and my wife was 23 years old. Bought a new single family home and received 8,000 dollars from the gov that we do not have to pay back. Basically no money out of our pockets to buy a 500,000 plus house just had to find some gov grants that we do have to pay back but with no interest.

27 now and not even close to buying a home. Where I'm stationed, I would never want to buy a home. Even if I wasn't in the mil, I wouldn't buy a home for a while. I enjoy being not tied down to a particular city right now. I've still got too many places I wanna vist or live in and I wouldn't want to deal with the burden of renting it or selling it.
