It's all laziness. Prepared/fast foods are easier to make, even though they're not as healthy for you. I speak from experience here. I love the idea of freshly made, home-cooked meals. I just need to find someone to make them for us.

To stay on topic, I ate today at Hog Heaven next to Centennial Park in Nashville. Pretty good BBQ turkey sammich.

Its not because its cheaper.

Its because people are lazy or not aware that you can cook with raw ingredients.

My wife and I have a salad every day for lunch along with a bean/lentil/rice/veggie dish.

Its incredibly cheap.

Three heads of dark green / red lettuce ($9), sprouts ($2), green onion ($2) and chopped almonds or pecans (~$3 worth), black cherry vinegar (~$.20) and oil (~$.30 worth) will make 10 salads.

Our bean/lentil/rice/veggie dish is made with raw ingredients (nothing canned) and is cheap to fix. You do have to soak the beans overnight before cooking. Its very good... kidney beans, garlic, wild rice, lentils, celery, carrots, bell pepper, onion, diced tomatoes.

I think I once calculated $20 a week for both of us for the bean dish.

So for $36.50 or $3.65 a meal we feed ourselves a healthy meal at lunch.

No preservatives or processed foods either.

I first came across this phenomenon in 2005 while in Brazil. I could never get into it though.

Every 8 extremely healthy meals, I eat about 2 unhealthy meals.

Those 8 healthy meal is like 1800's salads. We even eat raw garlic. (little more on days I don't have plans to meet people due to smell). Protein sources are from eggs.

Those meals are expensive. Lettuce usually last about good 3-4days max inside the refrigerator. So, we are spending good $15-22 for those diet.

I had Pho today for lunch, so we are having a 19 century style salad for dinner.

If I was healthy, and underweight, i will be treating myself to Papa Johns $8.99 pizza for dinner.
