It’s “easier” when your core car is just a sports car from the ground up, you don’t necessarily need to add the bells/whistles for it to sell. BMW, Mercedes, Audi are not that. They make everyday cars that have performance. BMW M, AMG or Quattro, yes they are the performance wing but doesn’t mean that those models should be CS/CSL, Black Series variants. They still need to be jack of all trades. That’s not going to change anytime soon.

You want as pure of a driving experience you can with these cars? Buy the CS/CSL or jump to Porsche.

Playing devil's advocate, but he could also be saying this so the 4-cylinder model doesn't tank as far in the meantime.

I really think sales will be poor for the C63 with a four cylinder and all of that weight. E63 with a six might be more interesting.

The general mood on the new C63 on the main MB forum/board is rather dark btw.

I agree, it feels like they were trying too hard to make it futuristic while holding onto "the past", but the result isn't really what people wanted.

The V8 in the previous two generations was so all-encompassing and generally awesome, that to make such a radical change while still calling it a "C63" has put a lot of people off.

From the reviews, it seems difficult to understand the logic and what the benefit of this complicated-but-heavy drivetrain is.

Plus from reviews the hybrid tech does not even work well together. I had a 2009 C63 and that V8 sound was god-tier awesome.

The only thing Benz will learn is the same any company will learn, is when their sales for the car crashes and it hits their wallet. Asking around dealerships in my area, the general consensus at the moment is the interest for the new C63 is extremely low. We will see in a few months if that holds up.

At least M kept the S68 V8 and the S58 I6. Audi RS division said they won't go below a V6 for their RS4/RS5 cars. If Audi and BMW can make it work, I am pretty sure Benz, with all of their stupid F1 marketing can make their V8 work via hybrid. They just don't want to. Benz is making the same mistake other companies have done in recent years, believing straight speed equals excitement.

They need to change the name then. 63 models have V8's. I hope MB regrets their decisions and their sales tank. They used to make desirable cars.

Throttle House just did reviews of the new C class. They said the C63 was pretty terrible, and Thomas described the C43 as “the worst car I’ve driven all year.” Mercedes seems to have lost the plot. However, I was able to check out the C43 in person. You’ll be too distracted by all of the glossy black plastic interior trim to pay attention to how bad it drives.

Porsche - "hey let's give people what they keep asking for"

Mercedes - "let's jam a 4-cylinder down their throats and tell them too bad no soup for you and btw it costs $120k now"
