I cannot agree more with the post right above mine, here.
People are STUPID! I have absolutely no problems letting my intentions known either, especially here in Germany. Over here, they have some of the most aggressive drivers in the world. When I first started driving over here, I was the slow poke American, I had to adjust to the much faster pace of driving and handling the streets. It is daily occurence to be travelling along at 50mph and miss buses and other vehicles by mere inches, literally INCHES!

Once you learn to drive aggressively, but defensively at the same time, it will be difficult to fit back in to the US when I go home in a year from now. It must just KILL YOU when you are going the speed limit and some asshole in front of you is going 10-15mph below the speed limit AND act like they own the Goddam road!

Hmm...I see a lot of traffic violations in my future....

I also absolutely hate left lane hogs. They are in the passing lane and just hogging it because they can. They would get pulled over in Germany for left lane hogging because the left lane is for :GASP: passing! Sometimes I hate being an American.

Apologies to any Virginians but they are the worst that I have experienced when it comes to dawdling in the left lane. They very rarely move over. More often than not, I find the right most lane in Virginia to be open.

I find passing someone at about 50+ MPH than what they are driving does not afford me any opportunity to witness a finger.

Man I hear you. A few weeks ago my wife and I took my daughter to the park on base. It was a Saturday and the park is on the back end of the base. So basically no one is around. As we are leaving I notice that there is a group of dependant wives talking in front of their cars about 50 feet in front of me on my left. I could tell they were dependant wives by the fact that they were 1) Fat 2) driving mini vans, and 3) by the assortment of Loony Tunes and Disney sweat suits and tee shirts. Anyway, as I get closer one of them looks up at me and steps out into the road with a disgusted look on her face making this slow down gesture with her hands. Like I’m speeding or something. I am literally crawling along since this is a child play area. I look down at my speedo and I’m hovering in between 5 and 7 mph. I had to resist a sudden urge to just run her down. Even my wife is like “You have to be shitting me.” So as I went past I rolled down my window and told her to get out of the road. She just gave me a look and turned and waddled away.

for everyone complaining in florida
u r suffering from quebec drivers... imagine how bad we have it when they are ALL like that around us...

anyways, the funniest thing I've ever seen was a guy throwing GRANOLA crumbs on my car when he was upset at me... I was like "WTF?"
I've been given the finger once for letting an ambulance pass :/

I agree.. the left lane should not be driven in... it is made to over take

I don't think I've been in the right lane for more than a 30 second stretch (gotta pass lane whores somehow) since I've been driving. My two favorite techniques for getting people to move over follow.
1) Approach the lane whore with a HIGH closing speed and brake with reasonably heavy force not exceeding 5/10ths as close as prudent to their rear bumper. An aware driver will at this point be scared shitless and move over, but the really oblivious ones you must resort to phase two.
2) The classic high beam flash.

If neither of the above work I usually start driving side to side in the lane, speeding up and slowing down to repeat phase 1, and attempting to pass in the right via some creative weave techniques.

That one pisses me off to no end and just happened yesterday (as if it will ever stop happening). I give them until the count of 3 or 5, depending on my mood, and then pass on the right.

You and me both. That stretch is one of the most consistently frustrating I have ever encountered.

I think I've seen the finger maybe twice in the last 10 years in Idaho (but I don't fly a finger either). It just doesn't really happen much here. Actually it's kind of irritating when sitting at a stop light, the light turns green, and the car at the front of the line doesn't move. Then nobody honks to wake them up. The driver immediately behind should tap the horn as a friendly wake up call, but people are just too polite.

The right lane is the new "fast lane", at least around Seattle. On any stretch of freeway with 3 or more lanes, stay in the far right lane and you'll blow past all the traffic.

Fortunately, WA State law says it is OK to pass on the right in those situations: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.61.115
