C'était un rendez-vous
Somebody posted something in O/T about some "raw" motorcycle racing. It made me think of an old, old video that I absolutely love. It was something my father and I were able to connect on before he died. It is C'était un rendezvous also known as Rendezvous in Paris. I'm sure quite a few of you have seen this. I'm not so sure some of the younger members have.
In late '70 the French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. I looked for it on Youtube but couldn't find the raw video. I did find it here however. Enjoy: Last edited by 954Stealth; 08-26-2014 at 08:06 PM.. |

This guy gets in a taxi, says, "take me to the airport." "Ok," says the cabbie. He proceeds to speed through the city, and runs a red light. "What the hell man?!" The passenger is outraged! "Don't worry, don't worry. I'm a pro," says the cabbie. He runs the next red light! "Dude, you're crazy, wtf?!" The passenger yells! "Listen, I'm a pro, don't worry," the cabbie reassures him. They come to a green light, and the cabbie stops. Dumbfounded, the passenger asks, "the light is green, why did you stop?!" "Just in case a pro is coming!" |

Exactly. We can debate how (ir)responsible it was to make it but there is no debating it's place in history pertaining to car culture and the thing that brings us all together here on the forums

IMO this just adds to the legend to find out it was this massive boat being whipped around those streets like that. The sound dub over is obvious (top gear redlining at moderate speeds) but I could care less because the video as a whole is just plain awesome.
