The high center of gravity and zeor-tolerance on body roll makes these trucks extremely accident-prone.

As you pointed out, having an empty tanker helps a bit (but not enought to avoid the sway). In fact, the empty tanker may be the primary reason the driver was able to "correct" the error by diverting the truck to the right side of the highway.

The only escape for the truck driver in this case is keeping the truck straight and pray not to hit the "racers" (which I doubted since the driver needed to apply the brakes). Once the impact occurs, the same thing (or worse) will happen.
Some things come with experience. youre right again. Ive driven uhauls before. As a matter of fact the first vehicle i ever drove (without a license or a permit, which was stupid) was a huge uhaul from pasadena rose bowl to chatsworth CA. It was dumb but it had to be done. If that dosnt help, my family is in the diesel business. Ive seen smashed up rigs all my life from rookie drivers that "swerved" to avoid an accident instead of staying straight.

Add onto that, the guys were racing. If the trucks doing 65 or 55 like its supposed to, a car thats racing that cuts him off should cut him off and slam the gas. not cut him off at a lower speed. Take that into consideration and you will realize this could have been possibly avoided if he just stayed straight.

Im really not trying to disrespect a dead man. Thats nowhere near what the point was. I just thought it was amazing that a trucker swerved cus someone cut him off.

Ya'll are missing the morale of the story: Don't street race.

uhauls are not big trucks, so driving a uhaul doesnt do anything. who the hell know why the dude swerved, dont you think its instink to swerve to miss a car in front of you?
You can swerve a truck without wrecking it. so thats a dumb answer for whoever said just to run over the person that cuts you off.
WE have no idea what really happened, cause the truck drive ris DEAD, RIP.
an someone needs to close this thread, cause people have no fukin respect.

All I want to say is wow..... I'm not taking sides .... racing can have some very bad results, BUT.... my friend who is a truck driver for the gasoline companies told me one day that if someone cut him off he is trained to keep the truck straight no matter what. If he had to run someone over or a car over he would if he had to to stop the truck from going side ways and potentially killing many more . It looks like everything that could have gone wrong did in this case.

That's crazy. The people who drive fast around big trucks, and the ones who piddle on the side of them are dangerous to the truck drivers and the rest of us.

Don't drive like a douche and stay out of blind spots.

I'm glad you posted this, I was gonna race drunk through a school zone..

Yes street racing is stupid, but it's been going on since the automobile was invented, it's not going to stop anytime soon.

R.I.P to the truck driver...

as much of a dick as 3Xtrem3 is on this subject, i'm affraid he's right...

a truck can not maneuver like a normal car...sudden movements just causes more harm than good...it's so easy to flip its cargo...he ain't optimus prime, to me, it seems like the driver of the truck might've been sleepy, saw a car zoomed across his line of vision, and panicked and jerked the truck, hitting the divider...

i've seen truck drivers get cut off, hell sometimes i do it too, they just maintain their speed...as long as u don't cut off trucks and slam on your brakes...

to be honest, i'd rather be out there sharing the road with street racers than drunk drivers or old drivers that don't know what they're doing...

the drivers weren't in bimmers but the article is still valid.
If I am a racer I will probably respond with, "Don't be a hater!!!"
Because it's simple to see it's more wrong to hate than to cause a fatal accident.

Murder happens everyday and will probably happen in the future. There is nothing we can do about it. Might as well stop prosecuting the murders. Genocide is a big national event in some country and it has too much moment to be contained; therefore we will do nothing about Darfur. The assumption about all street racers know what they are doing is a dangerous one. I will bet that's probably wrong. Two wrongs don't make a right.

I was demostrating the idiocracy of some of the racers. Racers often label you as a hater if you rebuke their behaviors. I am pointing out if being a hater is worse than killing someone. I am gald you saw there is something wrong with that statement as well.

Jeez people!!

-Idiot street racers cut off truck
-Truck (irrationally) swerves
-Truck crashes

Obviously, it was the street racers' fault to begin with
You can blame the truck for not continuing to drive straight, but oh well.

Wow, I fail to comprehend how a passenger could have survived that accident. The pole literally replaced the passenger seat. Not to make light of the situation but I attribute the accident to the ugly chrome wheels. (Joking of course.)

We have no idea what happened here, maybe one or more of the racers had to slam on the brakes because they couldn't make their maneuver which caused some innocent motorists between them and the truck to slam on their brakes. Point is, we don't know but the truck driver may have been faced with two choices, kill the people in the car in front of him (who may or may not have been the racers) or bail out. I for one am going to give the truck driver the benefit of the doubt since he's the only professional driver involved.

there's not enough info here...but the truck shouldn't be swerving. if people stayed right and left the left lane as the fast lane, we'd probably have less swerving. of course the people that got arrested are pretty screwed even though imo there's not much of a case simply because of how everything is being portrayed. and aggressive driving will always be a touchy subject (not saying its right)
