30inch computer monitor question

Looks like most of the 30" monitors on the market are a few years old.

I'm thinking about getting the Apple Cinema HD because it looks awesome (i know its over priced but don;t care) or the Hp LP3065 because my work pc is an HP. I don't like dell as brand.

Does anyone know if either of these monitors will be replaced by a next-gen version in the near future. Participially interested in the Apple Cinema HD and when the new one will come out???

Apple's displays are hard to predict. Besides the 24" LED monitor, the others haven't been updated in over 2 years.

If you're dead set on a 30" (as opposed to 27"), then I'd recommend the HP without a doubt. It's got more features than the Apple monitor, and includes multiple inputs. It's a lot cheaper than the Apple monitor too. I've been running mine for over 2 years and have absolutely NO complaints with the monitor (other than it doesn't have a built in scaler for other resolutions - i.e. cannot plug in my PS3 into the monitor and have it work).

Realistically you should look into the 27" computer monitors instead... they're even more full-featured than the 30"

Does apple give advance notice of changes to their monitors or do find out about new models when they are actually released. Also, as technology gets cheaper, do you think apple's next 30" would be cheaper or more expensive than the current price?

I'm pretty set on the 30 inch due to the 2560 x 1600 resolution. As far as the 27" go, don't they all max out at 1920x1200. Also, I hear the comments that the HP has more inputs an features (which i don't need) I'm going to hook the monitor in my office to my 8730w laptop for work- nothing more. Also, what the point of having more inputs if you can't hook up things like the PS3?

So back to the original question. Anyone have an idea on when these monitors will be updated.

Multiple inputs are always a good thing... i.e. Desktop as the main, laptop connected to the secondary. Plus, the HP monitor has a 4-USB2 hub attached to it, and the stand allows for some adjustments.

I was searching for the longest time for an aftermarket downscaler to work with lower resolution inputs (PS3, XBox 360, etc.) but nothing has really been released. So much for forward-thinking.

Good Luck with your quest. I've heard nothing about updates to 30" monitors. I think the smaller screens are dominating due to their relative bargain.

I've had 3 30" apple cinema displays (2 at home, 1 at work) and have never had a single issue with them.

Does anyone have an HP 8730w laptop powering their 30inch monitor at Max resolution?

Does it have dual-link dvi?

Hm. I don't know how you guys work with 30"...
Anyways, I think it all depends on what kind of work you do with the monitors.
I've had apple/formac/dell/sony/samsung but apple is the only one that I'm still using.
It's old 20" cinema but still colors are good except backlight faded about 10%.
It's now paired up with a new dell 22.5" but still drag things to cinema to work on color cordination work as viewing angle/screen size ratio/color variation is still better than dell. Only monitor I really liked was a Formac but it's reliability sucked.

If I were in the market with chunk of money on me, I would definately go with dual 24" apple cinema without a doubt.

I have two Apple 23" Cinema Displays, they are awesome but very overpriced. I bought them because I wanted IPS panels, even though the Dell displays were about half the price.

I have a Dell 2408WFP at work and it's a good display. IMO not as good as the Apple display, but the Apple display is not worth the price difference.

I don't think Apple even sells the 23" display anymore, they now sell a 24" display which is a POS if you want to do any serious graphics work, because it has a glossy coating on the screen.

We have a few 30" Apple displays at work and they're also great - but again, I don't think they're so much better than the Dell or HP displays that they're worth the price difference.

NEC seems to be making the best displays of all these days.

It depends what type of graphic work you do. 99% of my work is digital these days and the gloss displays are fine.

You'll want to double-check, but I think your laptop has an HDMI port. If so, you can use an HDMI-to-DVI cable or adapter to hook up the LP3065 or the Apple, as both displays only take DVI inputs.

The question is if your laptop will output at 2560 x 1600 to the monitor using an HDMI-to-DVI cable or adapter...

Cant go wrong with Samsung LCD anything, not sure if they make 30" but they should have one thats very very close.

I just sold my 28" monitor, you will enjoy a 30" for sure.

Calibrated and used for real color correction?
