2011 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix

The long weekend took a toll on me...

So, what's new with the historic Silverstone? Well...last year we had a new Wellington Straight and a few corners. This year everyone will settle comfortably in a world class new facility between Club and Abbey, where the new start-finish line will be.

However, teams cannot be too comfortable here at the moment, with the increasing lead of RBR. They will need to do everything they can to stop them, if they can. This is where RB5 and RB6 showed their strength in the past two years.

Do they have an "on-demand" type feature to watch it later? Or is it only live?

Nope, the iPlayer I've got from "xbook" is only live streaming.
I just download the HD torrent after the race for the "race Build up" and "red button forum". (waking up 4am to watch pre-race show is a bit hardcore for me...)

Each time I see pics prior to a race (and they're great, keep it up) I wonder - how do they transport/assemble the team offices? Especially when they have back-to-back weekends... are they several large modular "homes" that just fit together? Or transformers from another planet like Optimus Prime?

Maybe development in livery and models?

I'm still playing in f1 2010 from time to time to refresh myself with the circuit. However, some tracks are different this season, the start-finish at Silverstone (doesn't bother me too much as the track itself are about the same as 2010).

But its weird that in the Korean GP, the pit exit in the game was all the way behind the Turn 1-2 runoff area, but in reality last year, it feeds to the outside of Turn 1. Wonder was it because they do not have time to build the pit-exit in time.

Awesome pictures as usual! Thanks E90!

Playseat just needs better pedals and steering wheel than the G27's it looks like he's playing on. I'm looking forward to the new "Elite" fanatec lineup!

Now that it has been announced for a bit a time, I'm not so certain Ricciardo should have gone to HRT for his first drive.

That car is terrible, and he will be fighting it the entire time. The only way this could really benefit him is if he starts beating Lotus cars and moves to STR next year. Look what happened to Bruno Senna though. And to be honest, I'd much rather see Senna with a drive next year than Ricciardo.

Let us know how the new facility is. Are you leaving from DFW?

Btw, I heard Silverstone was sold out. It should be nuts there!

I have been wondering the same thing and how they chop the huge buildings down to movable pieces in a trailer. Would love to see a time lapse or step by step pics of how they do it. Really interested in that.

I'm not totally certain, but I believe their motor homes basically unpack into the HQ's.

Congrats, keep us in the loop and post pics when you get back!

Also, Luffield C should be sick - you'll be able to see all the way back to Bridge, one of the coolest corners in F1.

Silverstone to have one DRS zone

Quote:
The FIA has announced that there will be only one DRS zone for the British Grand Prix.

The last two races in Canada and Valencia have seen two DRS zones trialled to mixed success. On both occasions there was one detection point, and in Canada most passes took place in the first zone, meaning the same driver could then pull away in the second zone. In Valencia, on the other hand, overtaking was less frequent.

At Silverstone, however, the system will revert to just the one zone as was common earlier in the season, with the zone being positioned from just after turn four to include the turn five kink and the Wellington straight on the run down to Brooklands, which will be turn six on the new track layout. The FIA had considered having two zones at Silverstone, with the second being on the old pit straight after Woodcote, but have now decided one will be sufficient.

The detection point for the zone will be before Village, the new turn three.
