Agree from a ruling point of view but even more from a driver's point of view. Don't trust Massa's driving...he's a nice guy but also a crash machine. Stay out of his way if you want to finish the race. Lesson learned for Perez.

I think things have been different for Massa ever since Hungry '09, I wish him well, and I hope he can regain his confidence with the new Williams, pull up some good results.

And perez does well, but in high tension situations he folds, I can remember Malaysia '11? when he couldn't defend from Alonso in a Sauber.

The stewards at the Austrian Grand Prix have upheld Sergio Perez's five-place grid penalty in Austria after reviewing his last-lap Montreal crash with Felipe Massa.

The investigation into the crash had been reopened in order to give both drivers a chance to air their views, which they were unable to do in Canada as they went to hospital for precautionary check-ups. Force India had said that "new elements" had to be considered ahead of the race to show Perez was not at fault for the crash.

Despite hearing that evidence at a new hearing which begun at 16:00 local time in Spielberg, the stewards concluded Perez's penalty should stand.

"The driver of Car 11 [Perez] contended that the new element(s) evidenced that in defending his position he was exercising his right, under Article 20.4 of the 2014 Formula One Sporting Regulations, to use the whole track," read the stewards' statement. "However, it was clear to the stewards that the defence of his position occurred in the braking area. Article 20.4 specifically states that any right to defend by using the whole track must occur prior to any braking area. Accordingly the driver of Car 11 was not entitled to defend his position in the manner he did."

Perez said he had felt confident his argument was correct.

"We went there to show all the evidence that we had, the data, the line and the pictures that we couldn't show in Montreal," he said. "For that reason we felt very confident that we had the proof. The stewards looked to be quite sensible and agreed to an extent with everything I said, but then the situation didn't change at all.

"I'm a bit disappointed, but it's time to move on and tomorrow it will be a big pain to be five places back on this track that is so small and difficult to overtake. I don't want to keep talking about the accident and what happened and what did not. It's time to move on together as a team and find everything we can for Sunday. Tomorrow will not be so important for us, it will be Sunday."

Overdue performance from Williams this season.
They've seem so fast this season and yet luck and bad strategy cost them some podium they deserved.

I've heard from SkySports, Williams benefited from their ability to heat up the supersofts quickly, due to higher temperature today. But tomorrow's cooler temperature tomorrow might cause some graining.

Meh race. Ros/Ham 1-2. Bottas 3 and Massa 4. Williams definetly improved alot and Bottas ran consistently with the mercedes cars.

Well done for BOT and MAS. Although the Williams set up suited this type of track, don't know if they will maintain this kind of performance post the faster tracks like Spielberg and Silverstone. Force India still punching above their weight I feel which is very interesting, creeping up in the WCC ladder.

Well done Bottas and Massa, as well as Perez. Too bad Williams strategy unable to react to Mercedes and at least doing some damage control to their under-cut.
Great recovery from Hamilton, P9 to P4 in one lap, just behind Rosberg. However both tarty pit stops prevent him from doing better.

There's a lot of possible good fights. But in the end the hotter temperature kept most drivers in "management" mode and avoided many opportunities.

Agreed. Some iffy pit strategy from Williams sort of killed any possible drama in the race. Great to see Williams doing well, though. Once again, MB on top.

Good to see Webbo again. Bet he was glad Vettel wasn't on the podium.

Agreed.

In fact the best shot of the race was the look on Helmet Marko's face when Vettel slowed after losing drive.

Thank you, Mark Webber, for pointing out that Hamilton is losing a BUNCH of time in the pits as compared to Nico. Let's get that squared sooner rather than later.

A bit embarrassing for Red Bull at their own track. The Mercedes engines are dominating. This track was a bit of snooze though.

There should be one DRS zone at the longest straight from Turn 1 to Turn 2.
Two continuous DRS zone should help overtaking;if FIA worried about overtaking way too easy, the suggested one can be a bit shorter.

The track layout should be plenty of overtaking, but warmer track temp, fuel management and hard braking caused most drivers being conservative and only attack then they can.

We kind of see how excessive restrictions (fuel, tire, brake, etc) suffocate racing and overtaking.

THIS^^^ The more they clamp on all this stuff and look for a "greener" F1, they will continue to lose viewers and fans. Even Rosberg when asked about all the "extremes" that F1 wants he was against it. The article is in Motorsport.com

LOL @ Mark Webber's pic.

It's becoming more apparent that Lewis's pit times are always slower than Rosberg's.
It's getting annoying.

If Hamilton wants his lead back, he has to win 5 in a row if Rosberg finishes second for every race. Another DNF is gonna be a fatal blow, considering the last race is worth double the points.

Did anyone see martin brundle"s 03 shumacher pole vs. Massa's?
How convenient that the awesome sounding v10 had "bad audio."
