Doesn´t seem to be many true M enthusiasts here though
Judging from the lack of response in ALMS news etc.

In the ALMS, I go for Risi and the Lizards (in that order) but I'll definitely be cheering on this beast.

The "true" enthusiasts want specs on the car, not useless pictures.

We want to know the new regulations for the upcoming 2012 DTM season and beyond.

I'm disappointed that the car is (like all current DTM cars) more a prototype than a touring car. I thought that the new technical regulations for 2012 should force cars which are closer to production. It seems like there will be no big change and we have to deal with those cars. For me this concept of motorsport is just boring.

"Instead of the road car bodies, unrelated purpose-built chassis are used, which are closer to prototype racing. Many drivers have in fact described the handling of the cars as closer to single seater racing cars than road cars. Only the roof sections of the road cars are put on top of the roll cages, and lights and other distinctive design features are used in order to provide a resemblance to the road cars." I´m talking about people actually following BMW in Motorsports.
It seems VERY few people actually do that.

Which is strange because that´s what BMW M really is about and not the cars they build for the streets. That´s also where all their know-how comes from.

Will you follow the season or will you drop a comment when the post race news come instead?

You will find the majority of people on this forum don't follow racing at all. It is surprising to me too. How could all these people who mod their cars almost religiously not be into racing. Like you said, where do they think the technology comes from.

LOL, I watch an abnormal amount of motorsports. My friends and family think I am a little too crazy about it.

I cared about BMW motorsports when they were in F1. Once they dropped out of F1, I more or less lost interest. It's not just a cliche that F1 is the pinnacle of motorsports.

Yea i thought so, bit sad actually and sort confirms that many buy the cars because of the badge and not really what the badge stands for.
I could be wrong though.

Hope you did not take it offensively it was really just a question
I´m like you, but only really follows 2 series right now.

F1 obviously
ALMS GT class cheering for BMW! They have gotten themselves a damn good car this year with the new aero pack it just looks stunning!

Last year it was the constructor or team title and hopefully this year it´s the driver´s title aswell.

They have won the first two events of the season and got third place in Le Mans 24H despite having the fastest car on the grid taking pole and all.
And i watched some hours of Imola 6 hours, not sure but i think they got a podium there aswell. with the Ferrari´s taking the Top2 spots

And again BMW was leading the race

True but F1 really has zero to do with the cars they build for the streets.
But i agree, it´s the pinnacle of motorsports in a way.
Question is why you stopped watching it?

I’m very much like you. I really started to follow F1 when BMW entered and went to three straight Grand Prix at Indy, starting with the 2005 tire fiasco. I still watch F1, but I find myself cheering for the BMW drivers of Kubica and Vettel the most. But since BMW has moved into endurance racing and ALMS with the M3 GT, that is what I am really following. I’ve been to Mid-Ohio and Road Atlanta for ALMS races in the past and they are such great events to go see in person. I’m guessing I’ll start following the DTM as well, but I still loving watch BMW in Le Mans and the ALMS. I really hope they don’t pull out after this year or next.

I also don’t understand why I just see a few BMW fans at Petit Le Mans and Mid-Ohio. There are hundreds of Porsches and Corvettes in car corrals at RA but I saw very few BMWs. Wish there was a better following!

Yea me too! But there should be a good following here at Lime Rock which is considered BMW´s hometrack in NA.

Again, same as you Kubica has stayed close to my heart after he lead the season halfway in 08 until BMW decided for some reason to work on the horrible 09 car.

Yea this will be my first DTM season aswell, never was interested in it because i never really heard good things about it. Most people seem to like the "The Golden Years" with Merc 190E, M3 E30 etc. Those were the good times

But we will see what happens this year, regs have been tweaked so the racing might be improved aswell
