PC2: Current: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145548 Problem: i can't find a 2gb ram set (x2 1gb sticks) for my current ram. i can't buy another x2 512mb sticks and put it in b/c my cpu block is blocking the ram slot next to it. so i want to replace my x2 512mb sticks and replace with x2 1gb sticks. but i can't find the right ram that will fit...help please. |

All RAM is compatible with other ram. The faster of the two modules will be run at the slower of the two's speed.
There are other things to consider, however, but you did not provide enough information. IE if you will lose dual channel support, your computer supports the expansion, and a couple other things. |

Who the hell told you that all RAM is compatible with all RAM? there are different kinds for different applications.
But, assuming you get the same stlye of ram, all brands are compatible, but I would definitely recommend getting a matched pair (or set) so that you will have optimum performance and not lose dual channel. |

Don't come at me with a "who the hell" then when my statement was very accurate to this thread. As well as in general to anyone who knows the difference between DDR1, 2, and 3.

Erm, last I checked doubling the rate is a major performance bump.
OP: You may have trouble finding DDR because nobody uses it anymore.

Your Links to mother board doesn't work. So I still cannot suggest you the right RAM. You can use the Crucial Scanner and it will detect what RAM on your system and suggest the right RAM for your computer in most case. You need to use Internet Explorer for the Scanner to work. You can also call them and the sale rep will help you choose the right ram. Now, as far as Dual-Channel setup, not all Mother Boards that use DDR ( your pc 1) will support Dual-Channel. Assuming, your mobo support dual channel. I would fill up all RAM slot; I find the computer will run a bit faster with all RAM slots are filled. The down side of this type of setup is that you need to make sure the compatibility of the RAM on all slots. Computer doesn't like when it find different RAM such as different revision, speed and/or manufacture, etc. I always have bought Crucial RAM so I don't run into this problem. http://www.computing.net/hardware/ww...rum/46670.html the above page talks about FSB and RAM speed. You can also read this and buy correct RAM so you don't over pay for RAM that is not necessary needed.

thank you i think you answered my question. so if mobo is dual channel, and i have all ram slots full, all ram sticks will be in dual channel? so dual channel doesn't just apply to just using x2 sticks of ram.
i wonder why using 4 ram sticks is faster then using just 2. using 4, the mobo has to draw more and the ram is scattered but using 2 is just 2 direct info paths...donno Last edited by hl0m4n; 10-26-2007 at 05:43 PM.. |
