Driven: Audi A5 2.5T Quattro Lightweight Mule "The Beast"

http://fourtitude.com/news/publish/F...cle_6686.shtml

Sounds pretty impressive. If this is Audi's new direction then things are looking good. 1400kg with 400+bhp is amazing. I heard that this new 2.5TFSI will be possibly rolled out to next RS3/RS4/RS5.

That's 3080 lbs for us imperialists. That's amazing. I wonder how much a RWD vehicle with that chassis would weigh

Well....if this makes production, it could be the first Audi since the Ur Quattro that I would consider buying (as long as they fit decent steering to it as well)

VAG gets that customers want lightweight cars. BMW is woefully behind in this department.

3000lbs is great. Lets see what happens once it gets to production though. Feature creap always sets in and the weight always goes up.

Nice! According to MSN Auto the current A5 2.0T weighs 3682 lbs. Love to see the 3-Series line lose 600 lbs. Hope Audi can bring that weight reduction to production.

Jesus man, Audi is doing things right. AWD yet only 1400 kg. This thing will be a monster. Sounds like a mini Gallardo on take off too

3,000 pounds for an A5? Wow, that's crazy.

The boxster spyder is like 2,700 pounds and isn't AWD.

Impressive.

3080 lbs. for "The Beast" vs 3197 lbs. curb weight (no driver but with 90% gas) for the TT-RS...

It does say it has bucket seats and who knows what else deleted, but still. The TT-RS is ALL aluminum other than just the lower rear subframe being steel and is a MUCH smaller overall car. I don't know if I fully believe their weight unless this car has zero luxury items and massive use of carbon fiber. Maybe the 3080 lbs is a dry weight aka no gas or other necessary operational fluids?
