I get it. The Fiesta ST is a great car, but that doesn't mean the M3 has to be a mediocre car, which is the impression I got from Matt's comments. When he said (4:10), "Revving it out isn't really... an adventure. You don't feel boost building. It's nothing... it's nothing to write home about, honestly," I almost closed the video.

In matters of subjective review, there is something called professional consensus. Professional consensus is the commonly held view of individuals who engage in said subjective measure as their profession. In other words, they hold some authority on the matter. Professional consensus is that the S54 engine is one of the best naturally aspirated, straight-six engines ever built. It revs to 8,000 RPM, has a wonderfully flat torque curve, and makes a very characteristic sound. That Matt can experience this engine with such a lack of enthusiasm tells me that he lacks taste in engines.
Matt is just stating what other 335i owners have gone and said in the M3 forums. There are many 335i owners who have gone to the e92 M3 forums and said that their tuned 335i is faster than the e92 M3 and is a better daily driver because the e92 M3 isn't awesome until you hit 5000rpm. This is what Matt is saying and is no different than what 335i tuned onwers have been saying for years. The FEELING of fast is just as important as being fast. That is why you have so many complaints of exhaust not being sporty enough.

If you want to buy a high-mileage car with a worn interior, sure, but a nice E46 with reasonable mileage is going to cost you $20K or more.

I do agree that $25K is on the high end though. I've seen low-mileage collector-owned cars going for mid to high 20s.
My buddy has a CLEAN 2003 M3 convertible with 40,000 miles on it and is asking $20K and no one is interested. He will probably end up selling it for $17-18K.

My other friend is looking to buy one and is looking at a CLEAN 2003 M3 with 80,000 miles and they only want $14K.

I'm glad fun cheap cars are more plentiful, it really is good for everyone, even people that won't buy one.

Having a new car would certainly be less of a pain in the ass for a person that doesn't want to be involved with maintenance.

I think the reviewer would like the seats on the M3 much better if he lost 40 pounds. He looks to be shoe horned into those cars.

For $16K, you can get a nice e46 M3. For $25K, you can get a nice e46, supercharge it, and do plenty of other mods. Then let me know which car is more fun to drive.
Your still not getting the point of the video

It is all about badge really. I see members here praise Mini's all the time on this forum. But when in reality the Focus ST and Fiesta ST are much better drivers cars.

Matt Farah, your an idiot. In no way do these car compare and in every category the M3 wins besides the usual new car perks like warranty.

I couldn't agree more. The ST lineup has really hit a home run.

But let's see what the M235i has to offer, I think it's going to be a hell of a car for $44,000. So far it looks great and promising.

Comparing an 11 year old M3 to a brand new Ford? Hmm..I mean I understand that they are comparing but i beg the question why? Unless you're an enthusiast or have had an E46 for quite sometime, 90% would purchase a new Ford. The Ford is probably a great car and a blast to drive, I couldn't get past the looks of it though.

I can directly compare (almost).

My miswah (Mrs) has this:

It's the 208 GTi, which came a close 2nd to the ST in all the reviews and the GTi is just as fast as the Ford Fiesta ST.

And I have this:

A BMW E46 M3 CS.... (My 2nd M3)

Right the little hatch back has a 1.6 litre turbo motor the same as a ST Fiesta again producing 200HP. It is well built with nice stylish touches and also has a mountain of torque. Around town it's the perfect car, light on it's feet, small and really fast. It's even fun on the open road with twists and turns and really does like to be chucked about. How does it compare to an M3.

IT doesn't!!!!!

The M3 still feels like a 50k car and the quality of the materials really good. He driving position, the Nappa leather clad sports seats are really supportive. What the M3 has which a lot of cars don't have is that "sports car" feeling. It "feels" special even going slowly. It's direct with decent feel and when driven in anger really shows what it can do. It's a proper performance car. It's much faster than the GTi. The E46 M3 rivals cars like the Audi RS4 and Porsche 911.

Both great cars and I enjoy driving both.

Fiesta ST is more like a Mini Cooper S, without the Mini's interior/exterior styling or the premium feel. The Mini is fantastic to drive (I DD my wife's MCS), and I'm assuming Fiesta is as well, even though neither is as quick in drag races.

Now, I wonder why they didn't compare the MCS to the E 46 M3 (OK I know, it wouldn't make the same kind of headlines and pit domestic buyers vs import buyers).

I hope to pick one up very soon. I'm in the market for a new DD to replace my E36 M3 sedan (auto). Most guys are saying the Fiesta ST is the new generation E30 M3 because of the way it drives so I drove one a few weeks ago. Let me say the chasis is very stiff and, yes, its not the most powerful thing out there...but for the money, I think it's a great little package overall. As a current owner of a 1M and former owner of an E30, E46 and E90 M3, in terms of overall performance, the ST dosen't even come close, but it is a very fun little car. I can't think of something better new or used for the money. I'm no authority really on anything, and this is just my opinion as I am an enthusiast of all cars with a bias toward BMW of course. Flame suit on!!
