Bmw e90 parking light (angel eyes) lens?

Hello everyone, I have a quick question regarding my BMW E90 325i, a 2007 model. I was in the process of upgrading my OEM yellow parking lights (angel eyes) to white LED angel eyes when I thought about something. Upon removing the OEM parking light, you find a lens plate attached to it. This lens plate can be removed or reused with the new white LED angel eyes. Could someone clarify the purpose of this lens plate?

Additionally, I'm curious if it's safe to install the OEM parking light without the lens plate. Could this potentially cause damage to the socket? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!"
