PowerStop Brake Kit
I replaced my brakes a few months ago with a kit from AutoWarehouse, front and rears w/ PowerStop. I did a bit of searching and found mostly positive reviews and experiences with the product. The only negative I could really find was a bit of rust for a few different people.
After replacing both the fronts and rears I'm experiencing EXTREMELY bad squeal. It appears that the "ceramic" pads are producing a large amount of brake dust-upon cleaning the surface of the rotors and pads they're quite for maybe a day or two. They were all installed with Brake Quiet on the back of the pads. The wear in procedure was followed-and even right after installing them they were loud upon slow stops. Someone told me that these types of pads require lube on the back instead of brake quiet-I'm not sure if that would make a difference or not but am somewhat curious. Overall the braking power is excellent but the squeak/squealing is so terrible I cannot deal with it anymore. Has anyone else happened to have these issues? I'm currently contemplating just replacing the pads all around and hoping that limits the issue but would like some input first. All four tires have the loud squeal. If anyone has any input on something I may have done wrong or missed I'd appreciate it. Thanks again, Zack |

You have to break the ceramic pads in. Apparently they have a few hundred miles of dust and squealing and then you're good to go after that.

Yes the everything was put on the right sides, I followed the procedure and it's been a few thousand miles I believe already.

Sorry for the delay in response; I was told by a mechanic that brake quiet shouldn't be used on the type of pads that I had installed and that my best bet would be to take it all apart again and re-install with brake lube on the back of the pads instead. He stated that it should then better absorb most of the vibration and greatly reduce the noise, but it most likely will still be lightly present.
I will do my best to get this done by next weekend and re-bead again. Otherwise my next option will be to either replace just the pads with something like cool-carbon or just take it all as a lose and go with OEM rotors and pads. |

Stomp on 'em a few times at higher speeds. Otherwise, a little squeal and brake dust is normal for high performance BBK.

My pads came in, they didn't have any grease that came with them so I'll have to pick it up from AdvancedAutoParts. I'll be installing them this saturday, and powerstop also has an install guide on their website.
http://www.powerstop.com/installatio...frontbrakepad/ Step 11 says how to apply brake grease: STEP 11: Install the new rotor and remount the caliper bracket (not the piston part) to the spindle knuckle arm. Use brake grease to lubricate the edge of the brake pad plate where it touches the caliper. Do not put grease on the friction material. The lubricant goes between the plate and the piston or caliper back. Don't over- look this. If you don't do it, you may get brake noise when you apply the brakes. |

just adding that if the pads are not tightly secured in the caliper it will cause some unwanted noise!

I'm running these front and rear. I get no noise but used pad lube on backs of pads for both. I did not get any out of ordinary dusting either. I'd disassemble, clean them up with brake kleen and re-install. I used OEM brake pad lube not the clear stuff that came in my kit if that matters to anyone.

Reviving old thread. I also have this kit with the exact same problem. I installed them around 6k miles ago.
Tried grease and it worked great.....for a day. Went to O'Reilly and bought CRC Brake Quiet (stuff for the back of the pad). He was saying since drilled/slotted rotors bite so hard, they tend to move the pads more than a simple rotor. I have been trying for months to get these things quiet. Honestly, they are just junk brakes. Lesson learned, will be buying higher quality next time. |
