AMS Downpipes

I am considering putting AMS downpipes on my 2014 M5 instead of catback exhaust, at least for now. I am not experienced with modifying my cars and would appreciate any advice or suggestions as well as whether it is worth putting on my car. If so, what are the potential risks of doing so (void of warranty, potential damage to engine, etc.)

To give some context, power gains are not that important to me. I am more concerned with getting better sound out of my car without dropping $8,000 on a good exhaust system. This option was recommended to me by a local mod shop.

Please Advise.

From what I have read online, it pretty much voids the warranty on transmission and turbo problems. Everyone keeps saying that if you want it to be covered, you have to swap back the stock DPs. This sounds like a pain considering ill probably be spending 400+ to have them installed. What has worked for you so far?

I'd say it really depends on your relationship with your service advisor. Mine happens to be a friend of mine/customer of ACM. My car was brought in with a CEL, catless downpipes, and a JB4 for it's 1200 mile service and I wasn't given any trouble.

If something were to happen which needed a warranty claim, I plan on swapping in the stock DP's. That's only IF it gets that far.

I believe it does void the warranty, and that is the reason I am waiting up until after the warranty.

That is what my Mod shop told me. They claim they have a good relationship with one of my local dealerships and that it will not be a problem for me. However, with my legal background, a "handshake" is not an enforceable guarantee. So you can understand my hesitation. Thanks so much for your advice!!

It's all based on who is inspecting your car at the time of repair.
If it is for regular maintenance, you will have no issue.
They can not flag your car just because you have "mods"
But, if you have a component failure and it is pin pointed to the aftermarket part installed then yes, you are denied.

Ive got the catted down pipes and the full exhaust. Was too loud for me. My neighbor that lives 5 doors down could hear me start up when car was cold... LOL I installed my stock exhaust and left the down pipes on and I love it now. Sounds real good a bit louder but not too bad. Expensive trial, but I still have the exhaust if anyone should want it. My dealer knows everything I've done to mine and does not seem to have a problem... so far that is...

We have a lot of customers who are running down pipes only. I have heard it in person and it sounds pretty good!

my mechanic knows about
main M technician knows about
SA i used to use knows about (dont use SA's anymore, deal direct with technician and mechanic)
they cannot void your warranty on gearbox/electronics/suspension/etc, if you change downpipes, its unrelated.
people been running dp's for 15+k miles with no issues.
i hv had them for 4.5k miles with CEL on and no issues, you let your engine breathe and exhale properly!

Careful with AMS, I ordered mine almost 3 weeks ago and still don't have them, something to do with back ordered (delayed) sensors. Do look forward to them on my car!
