Is kayak the best one out there or is there better stuff available?

That's what I usually use. Sometimes I'll check Bing out but only for their price predictor.

Not all airlines show up on some of those sites, so I usually check the usuals looking for the best deal...

Orbitz
Expedia
Travelocity
Hotwire
Kayak

And sometimes the airline's website will have the best deal, especially if you're a member of their mileage program.

I haven't personally used flightfox before, but it sounds like it might be worth it depending on the original price of the ticket.

Usually use bing w/farecast, but also find myself using Google's version more lately:
