The New BMW ConnectedDrive is Crazy!!!

Hey guys, I just saw these videos on youtube about BMW self parking itself using connected drive. I guess its a much better version of the lexus LS self-parking function. Now, I'm not sure if this is a repost, but enjoy:

Never seen that top one before, but I've deff seen the bottom one. Cool stuff, but I think it's completely unnecessary.

Unnecessary, probably. But stuff like this probably will spawn some other technology that's related that will turn out to be useful.

I was watching the second video, thinking I wish it knows to pull itself out of the garage. Otherwise, the driver will have to squeeze between the walls and then it did. haha

Well, maybe in this great big land of America...

but places outside america, drivers could definitely benefit from technology in the second video...where some parking spaces are hardly big enough to walk between cars (let alone enough space to egress out of the car).

My woman's parents live in an upscale place in Seoul. It's painful to see only 12-14 inches between quarter million dollar cars.

Will there come a time when people who can actually parallel park manually will be as rare as those of us who can drive manual cars?

All these computers are dissecting driving.

i rarely parallel park, but for those who do, that could be a great feature
the second video is really nice because my garage is kinda cramped to i find myself pulling some 007 moves to shimmy my way out of my car

No kidding.

People can't drive, now they don't have to know how to park either.

wtf.
If you don't want to operate the vehicle yourself, then walk, take the bus, or hire a driver. I hate seeing cars become more computerized because the majority of "motorists" don't G-A-S about what they're doing behing the wheel.

Not sure what the big deal is about people not learning to drive a car with a manual transmission. It's the natural progression of technology, and if anything, it allows people to keep both hands on the wheel at all times (in an ideal world, at least), which is technically safer than having to remove a hand to shift.

Not really, because shifting makes you concentrate more on driving, and you're less likely to be eating or talking on a cell phone, and woman are less likely to be putting on make up.

Cool videos, I've never seen the second one, that's impressive.

the braking seems a bit abrupt. but cool concept. does it know to just park forward into a space approximately its size or did the owner have to program his garage?

i think its just a showcase of their technology.

maybe its for poor drivers of tycoons.

maybe its for the sake of tight parking spots!

And using an abacus makes you concentrate more on your arithmetic, so please burn your calculator.

I think it's great.. I wish they would install it on every car. My wife has about a thousand dings and scratches on her acura from parking in parking lots.

I actually find these to be useful in certain situations - on a busy city street with tight space to parallel park without scratching the wheels. garage parking is also good, kids won't just bang the door on the wall all the time.
