Detoxing

Has anyone done a digestive detox? I was thinking about doing something to clean out my digestive tract. My digestive system takes a long time to process everything I eat regardless of how much I am working out i.e. how fast/slow my metabolism is. Very odd. Any thoughts?

I'd look for the cause of your digestive troubles. Suspect gut function plagues many of us. Poor digestion can stem from multiple factors -- gut pathogens (bacterium, fungus, parasite, yeast), food sensitivities, dysbiosis (too much "bad" bacteria), consumption of dead/non-foods (processed foods), deficient HCL and/or enzymes, leaky gut, or excessive stress to name a few.

Look into the 4R gut healing program -- remove, replenish, reinnoculate, repair. The first phase requires that you know what pathogen you have using stool testing in most cases. My favorite to identify pathogens is the 401H from BioHealth Diagnostics.

Slowly introduce some more water, and more fiber. Fresh plant life would be best, but there are plenty of OTC items that will help you. My favorite is Fibracania (sp?) that has fiber and some cactus. It will do a pretty decent job of cleaning things out, but unless you change your dietary intake of fiber, it won't last more than a few days after you stop taking the OTC fiber.

More fiber. More water. Try some probiotics. The combination should keep you nice and hydrated as well as regular.

I've heard of people going on a straight up apple cider and vinegar diet and it working wonders.

Assuming you're getting enough water soluble fiber (20-30 grams a day) and get plenty of exercise, the things above could well contribute. Another possible cause is hypothyroidism. If you feel cold, have dry skin, trouble losing weight or unexplained weight gain, a visit to the doctor may be in order.

Has anyone used Bentonite?

I was having some upper stomach aches and my younger brother said try Bentonite.

The pains went away but I give credit to switching to lactose free milk.
I have been a heavy milk drinker my whole life but things change I guess.

The Bentonite says DETOX on the label?
