New VW Golf Now in U.S. - Review

Just back from the west coast and from driving the new Golf TDI. VW is doing a good job here

2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI – First Look and Review
Quote:

Technically speaking, this is a second look. I spent a day with a Euro-spec Golf TDI eight months ago and, despite it being on sale in Europe since late 2012, it hasn’t yet arrived at U.S. dealerships.

It’s taken so long because it’s being built in Puebla, Mexico (alongside the new Beetles and Jettas) for the U.S. market. On a beautiful late spring day in San Francisco, I took the wheel of a U.S. spec Golf TDI and started driving.

The route, across the Bay Bridge and through Berkeley, led me past some rare urban wildlife (I saw a wolf running down the side of the road and later on a deer ran in front of the car – all in Berkeley) but reinforced my first impression of the car, more than half a year ago, that VW is offering the most refined Golf since it was launched as the successor to the Beetle in 1974. Yes, it’s been around that long.....

I'm very interested in the car and I've been waiting desperately for them to launch the US configurator. Eager to get my hands on the new Golf R.

I really did like it a lot. Take a test drive. The R will be amazing.

I'd love to test drive one but I have no idea when the dealers will be getting them. I test drove a 2012 Golf R yesterday and the dealer was saying late summer but I think that sounds late. Do you have any insight on timing for the GTI or Golf R?

No specific info re GTI or R but once the Golfs start streaming in, I'd imagine soon. I did drive the GTI (as well as an original GTI) and am writing a separate review. Fun car.

I see VW really closed the TDi MPG and torque gap with the new gas 1.8 turbo.

I drove the Mk7 mule/prototype last week and was impressed all things considered. That's it as far as future details go because they are having me sign an NDA next week before I officially work for the company lol.

The Mk7 is already out - nothing is not disclosable. It's been sold in Europe for close to two years already for that matter.

The R won't be out until January at the earliest. Bite that they killed the low pressure fuel injection on the US version as well as the LED tails and a few other small details.

My point was, anything past the Mk7, not the Mk7 itself.
