I'm glad to see BlackJetE90 got theirs. That gives me hope that mine will make it here soon.

I wish I was in Austin for F1... went to Austin last month since my wife was there for a conference and my sister goes to grad school at University of Texas.
Such a cool city, it's like Venice and Pasadena but bigger. Anyhow we did do a tour of the track on the way to Black's BBQ and it is an awesome track. The view from the tower was awseome!!! I wanted to try to join a weekend track event that weekend but there was none Anyhow I'd recommend renting an Audi A4 from www.silvercar.com and enjoy some of the Texas Hill Country roads. I found a few where I was able to drive the A4 with reckless abandon for an hour without seeing another car on the road |

SOUNDS LIKE A FUCKING PAIN IN THE ASS TO ME!!!!! Due to the fact that 2 years running COTA has been unable to get my tickets out in a timely fashion, I highly doubt I'll ever go back to that circuit for ANYTHING!!! Fuck COTA is all I can say at this point. I'm going to keep asking them where are my tickets on their Facebook page. The people that run that track are fucking lame!!!

Went last year and had great time all three days...yes the lines leaving were long...especially on Sunday, but that is a small price to pay to have F1 practically in my backyard. Also went to every year that it was at Indy. Last year we parked at the Travis County Expo center and rode the bus in. Really wasn't that bad...at least I didn't have to sit in traffic and wear out my clutch. This year we opted for parking lot Q which is to the ESE of the track. Shuttle to the track from the lot is provided since it's out of walking distance. Hoping that since its "out of the way" the traffic leaving will not be as bad and we have another great experience this year.
It's an event that draws well over 100,000 people. Everyone should come with a little patience and enjoy the weekend.

JUST got the email from Fedex on behalf of COTA that tickets are being sent overnight. Tracking number was included, as well. |

+1. I got over 3000 dollars worth of tickets for 6 of us and I am sick of checking stupid mail box. I called them a few days ago and they said that everything was just shipped and I should be getting them soon. Really?! One fucking week left and I got no email confirmation, no FedEx tracking, nothing. What the F are they doing?.. |

Got mine yesterday. Was beginning to wonder about people that combined a trip with the race and wouldn't be home a few days prior to receive tickets.

Well, I finally received my tickets in the mail. Unfortunately, they look like regular old concert or movie tickets. Last year we had these full color gorgeous tickets, this year, not so much. Rumor I read over on reddit is that COTA stiffed the printing company. After the first round of full color pretty tickets went out, the printer asked for payment to ship the rest, that's when COTA said we aint' paying', and the printer said "then you get no tickets".
Here's what a $300 ticket looks like for the US GP (top one is just the friday ticket, sat & sun are in the stack):

I got my tickets via FedEx. I bought them, and then about a week later they were sent. Odd they'd FedEx them to Austin. I'd think regular mail was sufficient.
No issues getting them, other than the person I talked to was working the SVRA weekend, and didn't get back to me until that Monday. No biggie. On a positive note, is there some sort of meet up planned? It would be nice for those of you who've never been here to have a local show you around I guess.

My gut tells me it won't be as packed this year since the season has pretty much been decided. Probably a good showing from the U.S. crowd but don't see many international people coming with the exception of North and Central America.

I really hope they get another big crowd. Was great last year but for it to stick they need to keep the atmosphere up, it is a bit of a concern hearing of the ticket issues. Austin is a great travel destination and if managed properly F1 can bring a lot of $$$ in over the years. Problem is distance to track, really struggles against other "destination" events like Melbourne, Montreal, Monaco and Singapore. Kind of a weird in-between kind of event. Never mind, the BBQ, music and vibe make up for it (especially if you have a local to host!). |
