2012 Camaro ZL1 - 6.2L Supercharged

At this point, specifications are still preliminary, but Chevrolet is estimating that its supercharged and intercooled 6.2-liter LSA V8 engine will put out around 550 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque. Those ponies will be sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission using a dual-disc clutch that's necessary to properly harness all those horses. There's also a dual-mode exhaust system that alters the sound level and character in response to engine rpm.

ZL1?

I thought this was going to be called the Z28?

Anyway, doesn't matter to me.... That's one badass car.

Pony car wars continue!

For those who dont know, the ZL1 was the COPO engine code # for a 60's Chevy killer racing engine. It is reborn!

Good HP, but the car is still going to be a Tank.

What the last two said.^

The Camaro went from being one of the coolest cars to being a boring pillbox on wheels in a real short time. The design aged isntantly, the interior really starts wearing on you, and it's too fat and useless from a driver's perspective.

Not to mention the 5.0 came around and raped it in basically every category.

I find it funny how people complain about the Camaro's weight, but fully praise the E60 M5 and that weighs similarly to the Camaro.......

Yes I know they are completely two different vehicles, but my point is still valid. If you are going to bitch about the Camaro's weight, bitch about the M5's weight. I don't see people bitching about it or they mention it, but don't use it to detract from the car. They would go, " It's heavy, but still badass".

Yeah I didn't think the Maro was so bad until Ford pooped all over them. But this car should be pretty visceral. Hopefully they do like what Dodge did with the Challenger for '11 and tweak it in the suspension and chassis department as well.

This thing is going to rape tuned M3s and tuned 335is with an aftermarket pulley. Little bitches will say "but the interior is not good and it is so heavy" while getting their asses raped.

Hey man, my favorite car that I ever owned was my '68 GTO. It literally had a cardboard box attached behind the dash as a glove box from the factory, and it came with an 8-track player only. I loved it because the car was visceral in ways that made me not give a shit about the interior or the fact that you had to plan to turn hours in advance. I hope the ZL-1 is the same way, because the SS just didn't quite do it for me. I expect this car to be what the SS SHOULD have been.

This new S/C'd Camaro will eat them alive right off the showroom floor.

I've complained multiple times about the E60 M5's weight. Did the M School in South Carolina and after going in between an M5, M6 and Z4 M Coupe, I couldn't even get much fun out of the first two after having tried out the visceral experience you get in the Z4.

The interior seriously sucks taint. I couldn't care if the thing pulls low 11s in the 1/4.

This too. The 5.0 makes the Camaro obsolete in every way.

Can't wait for the Boss reviews and comparisons.

While I love the new 5.0 much more than new camaro, this has soo much grunt. The mustang would be out gunned severely. Hell it's basically a CTS-V minus 2-300 lbs (Im guessing) Its going to fuck up everything that isn't a Z06, GTR, or better. Honestly It may even have it's way with the Gransport and Boss. If those two end up being faster it will only because they are much lighter and more track focused.

Yeah, doesnt matter though. I dont think the 6.2 S/C'd 550hp/500+ ft lb Camaro is going to have a hard time with either a JB4 car or the F/I M3.

You're one of the few then here on e90post. I remember when the CTS-V sedan came out, people were poking fun at its weight. When others bought up the E60 M5's weight, the people bashing the V's weight shut up quickly.....

Didn't know an engine could make a car look better. I much prefer the Camaro's exterior design to the Mustangs. But, styling is subjective so that is my taste.

Also if I remember correctly, the 2012 Camaro is supposed to get a "track package" much like the Mustang to improve its handling.

I like the look of this car, but when I drove the current 6.2L, it was like driving a wet sponge. The CTS-V was waaaay better than the Camaro, both suspension and transmission. If they get it close to the Caddy ti will be ok. Then there's the problem of the view out of the car. Cant see shit.
