Cell Phone Coverage in the Bahamas

I am going to the Bahamas (Grand Bahama, Freeport) at the end of the month and I was wondering if anyone here as been there and if so what did you do about cell phone service. I have verizon but I've tried to look though there site and see if there is coverage but I don't think there is.

Anyone have any ideas about what to do or places they have used to rent cell phones for travel. I don't want a sat phone as they as expensive as all get out.

Thanks for the help.

If you have Cingular, just add the international plan and problem solved. My landlord was in Italy when I called him and he actually answered his phone.

This is true but you know how parents can be. No matter how old I get my mother and father will still insist that I call them before I get on the plane, and when I get off the plane. So far I think the best thing to do is just get a calling card and do it that way.

Thanks for all of your guys (and gals) ideas and help.

Wow, If I did that, there will be delayed flights of constant phones calls throught out the day.

Cingular works in Freeport, not Nassau. obviously from an international carrier.

if you have Vonage, and you really need to use a phone overseas, you can just take your box with you, and you can use it like a local call. When I was in england for a month I took my box, and made plenty of "local" calls to the US.
