^That pic just reminded me of how damn young the female Chinese gymnasts look. They "say" they're at least 16 but c'mon who are they foolin? They're basically forced into the world of gymnastics at the age of 3. It really isn't a mystery that the Chinese gymnasts won gold b/c they've been basically forced to do it before they can really decide for themselves at such a young age.

But other than that I absolutely enjoyed watching the routines of the Chinese gymnasts

Being recruited very young aside, I don't understand the big fuss over the 16 years of age thing. So other countries *could* complain that the Chinese girls who are younger, less experienced, never participated in int'l competition won because they are younger??? What am I missing?

See: http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtop...?f=32&t=832469 for a heated debate on this topic.

To make it worse, the Chinese lost to them in OT in basketball

Yeah, and they forced Michael Phelps into the world of swimming when he was only 2. Get real dude, don't be jealous that the Chinese team won gold for both men and women gymnastics.

yeah I really think that if the athlete has the potential to be in the olympics, age should not restrict them!

Ahhh..I don't hear many Chinese people complaining about this.

Now if the American team did this, that would be a different story.

Are you serious? It is an advantage to be smaller/younger when it comes to gymnastics. Those little tiny Chinese girls are able to fly through the air like Superman.

Shorter = better center of gravity
Shorter = less likely to fly out of bounds

and Rules are Rules.

There is no way that all the members of the Chinese gymnastics team meet the age requirement. One of those girls looks like she is 8 or 9 years old, tops. The supposed "20 year old" on their team looks like she is 14.
