Heading up to Detroit Auto-Show, anything to look for??

I'm taking my blue baby for her first longer ride, despite all the snow-storm warnings issued for Michigan, to see the Detroit auto-show. Those who went, are there some points of interest i should be looking for, any good BMW booths or models? i'll probably see everything anyways, but i don't want to miss anything major.

wow, that must have been the lamest carshow i've ever been to. i felt like was at a really big GM dealership. besides 3-4 concepts, there was really not much to see. of course, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari and Laborghini were the busiest booths. that was the first time i've seen M5, M6, Z4 M and Z4 coupe concept in person so that was really cool. some assholes had started stealing shifters and knobs from inside the cars so they closed them all for public and so i couldn't even sit in them.

overall though, i'm very disappointed.

by the way, driving in michigan is absolutely insane. 70 mph speed limit on roads that have 40 potholes per square foot. people are completely inconsiderate, change lanes left and right without signaling, slow down from 80 to 0 whenever they want for no apparent reason, pull 2 feet in front of you even though there are 5 free lanes next to them, in a summary, assholes.

That's how I felt when I went to the South Florida International Auto Show in Miami this December.....and Detroit is supposed to be much much bigger. I hardly even bothered taking any photos.

exactly, i took my camera and was all pumped up to take pics, but when i saw mainly nothing but stock american cars, i put it back in my bag.

oh, as i was walking by Ford section, there was a girl (about 17-18) that came with her friends and when she saw the new Fusion (the cheapest looking car, by the way, worse than an Escort) she said "oh my god, i can't believe i see it in person" and she started touching and inspecting it with tears in her eyes. a mustang GT was right next to it and when she sat down in it, she said it's been her dream to sit in one of these and now it came true, with a huge smile on her face while her friends were comforting her. i almost fainted when i heard that. i guess there are people who ADORE those cars...

I went to the 2005 Seattle Auto Show and I really enjoyed it. It was pretty small compared to the big shows like Detroit (from what I hear) but it was still lots of fun to see all the nice cars they had. Sat in a Z06 vette and realized I never want to buy one because of the seating position and interior. Sat in an M5 and wished I had more money There were very few concept cars though I need to get to one of the big shows one of these years.

actually they had a police version of the Z06 and the paint job on it was very interesting. i really liked it. that is the only american muscle car that i would buy. my 330i actually cost about the same as a new corvette...

ah the joys of driving back home Hope you didnt encounter any "Detroit Exits" which are performed by certain segments of the population.

For those who dont know what Im talking about...

A Detroit exit is when a driver is in the farthest left lane possible, waits until they are at the off ramp that they want, and cuts across every single lane of traffic at once to get that off ramp. And they are performed more frequently the closer you get to Detroit. The further away from Detroit you get, the better people drive.

I'd still take Michigan drivers over some of the drivers Ive experienced down south though. Sorry but merging at 35mph will get you killed. And there's nothing so interesting in the newspaper that you have to read it while you drive!!

this is exactly what was happening! i didn't know it actually had a name. we were laughing at what kind of driver's test do they have in michigan, like instead of parallel parking they'd have "get through as many lanes as possible in the shortest possible time" or "race through traffic in front of at least 5 cars in the fast lane and slow down to 30 mph until they all switch to another lane. repeat the same in the lane they just switched to."

yeah, and they don't even go on the off ramp, they get to the exit right at the very end...
