<220 HP, and gearing for autobahn speeds will do that.

Keep RPM higher and it should be ok. It may not feel very sporty, but not slow either. Of course it depends how much these people weight.

how big are these people? if you and the other 3 are close to 200lbs. then 800lbs will slow most cars.

They're prob 130, 160, 170lbs.

I just usually never have more than one extra person in the car. Today, I took coworkers to lunch and was suprised by how much it affected acceleration and handling.

Oh, well.

ive noticed that too. not a huge difference when only one other person is in the car but 4 people becomes dramatically slow. maybe its less noticeable in the 330. ive also got auto which slows me down some.

What does gearing for autobhan speeds mean? Does that affect off-the-line performance?

It means that the gearing for our cars are designed for higher top speed (>150 MPH), and not for max lower speed acceleration.

It's not hp that helps in this case but torque. Diesel, in general, has higher torque and it will be affected less by load.

With 122hp, the torque saves the day...anyway, I'm loving my E90, especially compared to me (now gone) 1.4i 2004 Ford Fiesta!!

Shoving four people in my car and baggage also makes it feel slow.
Driving around with just me in the car, and then adding 250kgs definately makes a difference with a butt dyno. The car feels less powerfull than usual, because you are carrying more wieght. I feel the same thing when I fill up...

It all depends on your level of expectations. I expect car to be slower when I put 4 people in.
However, comparing hp and torque for load. Some real trucks have only around 200 hp but 500 torque! That helps a lot to pull tons of load. It doesn't mean they don't feel it. But if their trucks had 500 hp and 200 torque than they may not even start rolling.
