golf clubs

Looking for a set of golf clubs...i've been using my dad's set REAL wood woods, Steel shaft irons...from the 70's or 80's. Our golf bag is leather...Vintage stuff really.

I'd like to get my own set, we go to the driving range maybe 1 or twice per month, and play maybe once a month. Really not looking to spend a lot, would just like something that people don't stare at you for carrying hahaha.

any suggestions?

You have to go in and demo some clubs in your budget range.
...it's really the only way.

I am a firm believer in custom fitting I think it makes a big difference IMO. However from your description it sounds like your not really serious yet so what I would suggest you do is hit up a play it again sport and pick up something with a cavity back(irons) and you should be good to go. One of the most important thing when buying used clubs is to make sure the grips are in good condition. You may want to drop another 50-100 bucks and get the clubs re gripped with brand new grips.

For your level and frequency of play the brand really won't matter. Just find something that you like the look and feel for (not to mention the price) and your good to go. Good luck and enjoy the best game ever

i have a full set of callaway razr's and a full set of taylormade burner 2's. the razr's are great for better golfers with less swing problems (they hit very pure), while the burners are infinitely more forgiving. there are lots of places to find used club sets for significant savings. remember, a set of clubs will last a lifetime. if you ever plan on taking your game to a real golf course, which you should, an investment in a good set of clubs will pay dividends later. my suggestion would be to go to a bigger local golf shop and demo some of the more popular brands of clubs to see what you like best.

I have my Titleist Club 755s custom fitted and it was the best decision ever.

Considering you're just a regular golfer (nothing wrong with that) +1 on cavity back irons. Blades will just cause you pain and suffering if you don't have your swing down right.

I have a Taylormade Burner, stiff shaft. I just treated myself to a R11, so if you still need a driver I can sell it to you.

Let me know

For somebody that plays this rarely and wouldn't even hold a valid handicap, I'd suggest looking for a used set. Definitely would want cavity backs and would also suggest game improvement clubs with significant offsets.

+1 to golffrr's suggestion for new grips, but I don't think fitting would be needed...yet. If the OP starts to get serious, he could still get them bent to the correct angle for his swing, and add lead tape if the swing weights needed to be adjusted.

From there, in full agreement when purchasing new clubs that full and proper fitting makes a huge difference.

i picked up an adams tight lies set for maybe 550 or so not too long ago. work great for me, its a bag sw, pw, 9-5 irons. 4 and 3 hybrids. 5 and 3 wood and a really solid driver. Honestly your going to be used to the old blade style clubs like i was so anything new you hit with, short of a pro set, will feel strange at first but better long term.

I bought a full set of custom fitted Cobra's about 10 years ago, I still use the irons but I have picked up a couple Cleveland wedges,60 and 54 degree and I picked up a used Cleveland 2 iron which I have a love hate affair with.

What kind of budget do you have for clubs?
