Attempted burglary

some crazy stuff happened today...

As I was driving home from a class I had 2 choices: go to the doctor's appointment for a check up or go home and prepare for a presentation later that day. I decided to do that latter since we're not that prepared.

So I opened the garage, parked the car and came inside. I went to the kitchen to wash my hands (just came from PE) and I heard noises. At first I thought it came from up stairs and wondered if that was my brother. Then I thought "I didnt see his car outside, can't be him." So I was checking around and the noises became a little bit louder and more frequently now. Then I saw this shadow right outside the backyard. I wasnt really sure who it was at first so I didnt really know what to do. Then I heard the door being taken apart and was about to call 911 when the guy opened the curtains, popped his head in, saw me standing there and just bolted back out in the yard and took off.

I went outside and there happened to be a cop cruising by. I flagged him down and he came in, radioed for backup, wrote the report, and dusted for finger prints- the whole 9 yards.

It was kind of freaky cus you see this stuff on tv but when it happens to you in real life, it's kind of like a bad dream. I mean it's such a weird feeling when you actually experienced it, let alone witnessed it happen.

PS- when the cop saw my car, he asked if it was mine and complimented it. cool guy.

That sucks. At least you were their before the guy made it in and glad to hear you came out of it unscathed.

Maybe it's a weird day for going home, but on my way home from work the trailer from a semi came unhitched when the semi made a right turn. Not something you see everyday.

Sign of the times. Bad economy = more crimes related to theft. Was actually talking to someone in my family last week who works in the CA state criminal court system and she said crime is on the rise - especially burglaries and home invasions, etc.
Hmm maybe I should consider getting an alarm for my e90 now that I think about it.
at any rate glad to hear you were not a victim. Stay safe.

It is my understanding that BMW's that are keyless, can't really be stolen so easily. Yeah sure, I guess someone could drag it, or pull onto a flatbed but it could never be started. This makes it less appealing to car thieves. A BWM mechanic told me that the car parts also communicate with each other. So if someone stripped a BMW, and tried to put the parts on another car the car would not function because the pieces aren't communicating with each other.

And end up in jail for the rest of your life... You cant shoot people running away or for simply stealing from your house..

You can only shoot if your life is in immediate danger. And the recent castle doctrine laws just change it so you dont have to retreat if someone is in your house and you still have to be in life treating danger before use of deadly force can be used.

Thanks for the warning but I never did say I would shoot people running away.

If there's a burglar in my house and I have a family, I'm going to use deadly force if I deem necessary.

yeah, definitely state dependent. if you blasted him outside your house you might have a tough sell on the argument in court. but no doubt if he was inside your house you have every right to self-defense.

If he popped his head in and he caught him just in time with a single shot...

Thanks guys! I was chatting with the cops and he said that this district has more burglaries than any other district which is kind of scary. I mean I'm not totally shaken up because there's really nothing to be shaken up about. It's just kind of trippy it's happened.

This happened on the highway to me today. I was luckily far enough away that all traffic was able to come to a stop before there was a collision!

I scared a robber out of my apartment about 10 years ago; he ran out the back door when he heard me come in. Stole ~30 CD's. I was relatively poor, so there was really nothing of value.

I think most house thieves want money, they don't want to meet up with anybody. If cornered, and they have a gun, they'll do what they think is necessary. I feel the odds of my survival are improved if I don't have a gun. Take that logic, for what it's worth.

Oh I heard about a divorced asian lady who was killed in her house in Milpitas.
I guess it's getting pretty rough over there...

Yeah, but a bullet hole in the floor next to where he is standing is awful damn convincing. If he takes one step toward you after that, deadly force is authorized. At that point, 2 in the chest, 1 in the head, you dead.
